Well over 200,000,000 people in this nation are responsible and HAVE DONE NOTHING WRONG. QUESTION: |
|
Edited on Sat Sep-27-08 11:58 PM by BigBearJohn
Why do we have to clean up somebody else's mess?
Besides your loving mother, Who the HELL ever cleans up YOUR mess?
Who?
ON edit. I'm not saying we don't have to put out the fire. But I'm tired of standing on the bucket line when the same idiots start the fire every time.
I pay my bills. I save for the future. I help out my community. I take care of my kids. I work 12 hours a day. I don't gamble.
And now I have to come to the rescue. I have a right to be pissed off.

1. If somebody else started a fire that was about to burn your house down too, would you say |
|
"Why should I put it out? Someone else started it!"
Wall Street fucked up. Bad.
But the fire they started is about to burn YOUR house and MY house down as well.
Now... you can decide that, as long as the fuckers who started the fire burn, it's ok for me to burn too.
Personally... I'm not that vindictive.
These banks are us.
Our savings Our 401k plans Our Children's college funds Our employers' credit lines (which allows us to get paid)
OUR FUCKING MONEY is at risk.
Your OP shows a basic lack of understanding of what this means to you.
If there is no bailout, then:
- in 6 months, Unemployment will be at 15% - The Dow will be at 7500 - It will be impossible to get loans...of ANY kind... for ANY consumer
We'll be in a freaking depression.
Take an economics class.. educate yourself...

We want to hold these CEO's accountable for their bad actions and lack of good judgement, and in some cases, outright theft. Should we not also hold those who chose to make loans they could not afford accountable? No bank or mortgage company ever held a gun to anyone's head to make a loan. That being said, I agree with you except maybe instead of a direct bail out, we should have loaned WS the money. I have a feeling we (this generation will not see the end of this) and my grand daughters will be paying this for many years, disguised as taxes of course.

2. Nobody on DU has filed bankruptcy? |
|
Nobody is over-extended on their credit cards? Really?? NOBODY????
Yes it sucks that Republicans are crooks. I am sorry half the country is too fucking stupid to figure it out.
I am not willing to go down the tubes because of them. This money isn't going to make a hill of beans difference to me. Keeping the economy from collapsing will.

15. But that only highlights the question... |
|
If people here were having to file for bankruptcy, or drowning in credit-card debt, would you see the government raise the national debt to give them money so they could pay off their debts scot-free? May I laugh?
In fact, the vast majority of congresscritters who are currently planning to bail out big finance at your expense were the same ones who passed "bankruptcy reform" three years ago to make sure that big finance would still be able to extract their pound of flesh from people who were going down for the third time.

I don't give a shit what they do with trillions of dollars. I really don't. Keep the economy from collapsing until we can get control of it. That's all I care about it.

11. Now, that's not totally fair |
|
It isn't so much a lack of economic IQ but rather that they don't understand this isn't just about people making bad loans or Wall Street CEO theft, but also about my pension fund, my 401K, my retirement etc..... and a gadzillion other people's. Most of the people posting here are not old enough to think about those things yet.

4. At this point we have no choice but to fix it. I'm confident that the |
|
dems will make the best decision. They have to fix it unfortunately. Nobody would be able to borrow money and no businesses would be able to survive. I'm confident that the next administration will ensure that the proper safe guards are in place so that this doesn't happen ever again.
People like McCain...Mr. De-regulator played a big part in this shit happening.
We have to have some sort of bailout. Sad but true.

12. It sucks but it has to be done |
|
I would say I have seen 3 plans float about so far: The Paulson/Bush first version, the Dem/Paulson version and then the House Republican one (which looked truly awful-at first glance). I would think the Dem plan is the best one at the moment. I like the idea of not giving out all the money right away, but waiting for a period after the first installment and then taking stock of whether it would be worthwhile to continue to do so, limiting CEO pay-I think even the Reps are limiting that etc.
