I saw my first ad for Prop 8--The Anti Gay Marriage initiative in California.
They are using scare tactics, like churches could lose their tax exempt status.

I am sending money to the NO ON Prop 8 campaign.

PLEASE help us here in California, and help keep marriage equality, as decided by our CA Supreme Court, a reality.

1. From noonprop8.com
Don't Buy Their Scare Tactics!

Proponents of Prop 8 are distorting the facts. Prop 8 seeks to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry.

Prop 8 isn't about schools, religion, children, doctors or courts. Prop 8 is about eliminating a fundamental right to marry for gays and lesbian couples, some of whom have been together for years. They are our friends, our neighbors, our co-workers and our family members. State law should not single out anyone to be treated differently under the law. We should not vote to eliminate their fundamental rights.

Regardless of how you feel about marriage, we should not eliminate fundamental rights for ANY Californians.

3. And
Don't be misled. Here are the real facts about Prop 8.

Proponents of Prop 8 make many misleading assertions in their new television ad. Here’s what’s fiction and what’s fact:

Fiction vs. the Facts

Fiction: People can be sued over personal beliefs.

Fact: California’s laws already prohibit discrimination against anyone based on race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. This has nothing to do with marriage.

Fiction: Churches could lose their tax-exemption status.

Fact: Nothing in Prop 8 would force churches to do anything. In fact, the court decision regarding marriage specifically says “no religion will be required to change its religious policies or practices with regard to same-sex couples, and no religious officiant will be required to solemnize a marriage in contravention of his or her religious beliefs.”

Fiction: Same-sex marriage would be taught in public schools.

Fact: Not one word in Prop 8 mentions education, and no child can be forced, against the will of their parents, to be taught anything about health and family issues at school. California law prohibits it. A Sacramento Superior Court judge has already ruled that this claim by the proponents of Prop 8 is “false and misleading.” In fact, the “case” that is cited in the ad is from Massachusetts…the proponents knew what California law said, so they used another state, again to mislead voters.

Fiction: Four Activist Judges in San Francisco…

Fact: Prop 8 is not about courts and judges, it’s about eliminating a fundamental right. Proponents of Prop 8 use an outdated and stale argument that we’ve already voted on this, that judges should not protect rights and freedoms, and that somehow what happened in the past should be the guide to our future. This campaign is not about what happened nearly nine years ago. This campaign is about whether Californians, right now, in 2008 are willing to eliminate a fundamental right for one group of citizens.

Regardless of how you feel about the issue, we should not eliminate fundamental rights for ANY Californians. Please vote NO on Prop 8.

2. I've been giving money to Equality California
It isn't much...but I want to do what I can to defeat this.

I'll see if I can give some more later this month.

4. Thanks. There has been SO much out of state money given to this on the Dobson side
I am scared that we are going to lose the marriage rights we have fought so hard for. We can't lose them in California.

13. Californians should say: FOCUS ON YOUR OWN DAMN FAMILY to James Dobson.
Colorado apologizes for the fundyland embarrassment and is working VERY hard to kick him out of Colorado/or throw him in prison.

(I.E., if the Feds investigate FotF's tax status, then something interesting will come out)

5. I saw my first "Yes on Prop 8" bumper sticker today.
A dried-up old hag was driving.

However, I think that Prop 8 won't pass.

8. I've seen quite a few
Unfortunately too many. However, I really hope it doesn't pass. While California will go dark blue this November, I'm afraid this will barely fail, although it will fail nonetheless, which is good.

6. The missing prop 8 lawn signs...
...It's kinda funny. The Mormons and others promoting this are en masse putting out their anti-gay lawn signs. But they're delayed because something happened with the Chinese manufacturer. Every day a good day with less visibility.

7. I really wish I was still a Californian resident
I'd love to vote this bullshit down.

If you can do some research, can you possibly expand on how or why gay marriage will equal the loss of tax exempt status for churches? I'm just curious.

12. I think it's about churches not performing gay marriages, but let me check.
I can't imagine that churches would lose tax exempt status for that.

19. I bet it's something lame
But I'm curious how strong their fear factor is going to reach to scare the shit out of all the rich, white people in Del Mar who pretend they don't have gay nieces and nephews (because it's never their children).

9. And here I thought scare tactics were so effective,
having just come from your other thread . . . . .

That said, anyone who votes for Prop 8 is a disgusting human being.
