Oh My God, There Is Hope !
My mother in law and I don't see eye to eye on a number of subjects, the main one being politics. She has voted republican all her life. For the last few years I occasionally try to make the point that she's buying into a lie and if she just knew the truth, she would probably change her views. She usually gives me a slightly condescending smile at that point and refuses to look at the facts. As if *I'm* really the one who is stupid and gullible for believing the stuff I believe, when In fact I actually try to look into the story, not just turn on Fox News, like she does religiously.

Every once in a while she'll send me some bogus email that is circulating around, blaming the democrats for something. When I point out an inaccuracy in it, she just buries her head deeper in the sand and plugs her ears. It's actually pretty disgusting. I've considered it hopeless for quite some time.

Today I had to clean my ears out when I heard my wife on the phone. I could tell she was talking to her mother, who was saying she is seriously thinking about voting for Obama.

I had to pinch myself. I still think I'm dreaming. Someone pinch me.

This doesn't happen in this universe. Not with her.

Evidently she has two main reasons for giving this serious thought:

1) She didn't like the way McCain handled himself in the debate. She said he was condescending and never addressed Obama directly. She claimed she noticed this all herself during the debate, and was bothered by it then, rather than from the media spin.

2) She said when she watched the Palin interview with Katie Couric, she could not believe her eyes and ears. She could not believe that this person was even being considered for a high level position and it really scared her.

All I can tell you, is that if this is really true, then there is hope. If my mother in law is thinking about voting for Obama, ALL BETS ARE OFF. McCain himself might be considering it. She is one of the last people on the planet I would think would finally see the light, or even realize there might be a light.

The radicals and wingnuts and neocons and religious fanatics are surely lost forever. They are truly hopeless and we can write them off. But there are not enough of them in this country to win this election if people like my mother-in-law are voting for Obama.

....now if we can just somehow make sure the votes are counted correctly, we'll be celebrating this November!

Unless of course this is just a dream. But I've been pinching myself all day and I'm not waking up. Ouch that hurt.

1. Great story!
I love reading about these - lessens the fear of another stolen election.
Hopefully, people like this are under the radar and will surprise the republicans.

2. I still fear for a stolen election... but
the more people like my mother in law vote for obama, the harder it will be. even though many states still do not audit their election results, a few do, and it could be just enough to deter the amount of fraud that will be required.
