POS Tom Brokaw admits he advocated for McCain and against KO and Tweety with NBC
From HuffPo:

Tuesday's New York Times features a profile of Tom Brokaw ahead of the October 7 presidential debate being hosted by the veteran NBC newsman. The Times reveals that Brokaw has "played a pivotal role out of public view, both within NBC and in its dealings with the campaign of John McCain in particular."

Mr. Brokaw said that over the summer he had "advocated" within the executive suite of NBC News to modify the anchor duties of the MSNBC hosts Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews on election night and on nights when there were presidential debates. Their expressions of strong political opinions from the MSNBC anchor desk has run counter to the more traditional role Mr. Brokaw played on "NBC Nightly News" for more than two decades. NBC said earlier this month that the two hosts would mostly relinquish their anchor duties to Mr. Gregory, while being present as analysts.

"Keith is an articulate guy who writes well and doesn't make his arguments in a 'So's your old mother' kind of way," Mr. Brokaw said. "The mistake was to think he could fill both roles. The other mistake was to think he wouldn't be tempted to use the anchor position to engage in commentary. That's who he is."

Brokaw said he has also conducted some "shuttle diplomacy in recent weeks" between NBC and the McCain campaign.

His mission, he said, was to assure the candidate's aides that -- despite some negative on-air commentary by Mr. Olbermann in particular -- Mr. McCain could still get a fair shake from NBC News. Mr. Brokaw said he had been told by a senior McCain aide, whom he did not name, that the campaign had been reluctant to accept an NBC representative as one of the moderators of the three presidential debates -- until his name was invoked.

"One of the things I was told by this person was that they were so irritated, they said, 'If it's an NBC moderator, for any of these debates, we won't go,' " Mr. Brokaw said. "My name came up, and they said, 'Oh, hell, we have to do it, because it's going to be Brokaw.' "

Yeah, right, there is another great example of the "librul" media for ya! :sarcasm:

It's OK to have RW talking heads the hell all over the place...but two guys the RWs "think" are left leaning? Oh, well, the butt end of the McHoover campaign ~~ kiss their asses. And...Tweety a "librul"?!?!?!?! Oh, please!!! GMAFB!

Hey, Tommy Baby....so's your mother! :grr:

1. Brokaw is worse than Brett Favre, Curt Schilling
To use a sports analogy- They love the sound of their own voice (Schilling) and just cant seem to stay away after they seemingly retire (Favre).

Brokaw has always been a thinly veiled water carrier for the Republicans through his entire career. The Republican's has always been able to turn to Brokaw for the softballs.

That being said - removing Tweety was absurd, however, removing Olbermann was probably a good step. I love the guy and he's smart & honest, but lets not kid ourselves - he makes no secret where he stands. We all know that it was going to be hammered on if Olbermann was anywhere near the hosts chair during an election.

30. I know, I know
I'm sorry, I can't resist taking a jab at Favre when the opportunity presents itself.

I'm not a Packers fan or anything, I just don't like the magical appearing and disappearing act that he's pulled out through the years.

Thanks for the recs....
....:hi:

I was up early again ~~ left knee pain ~~ and decided to ck out the HuffPo...and I saw this and was sooooooooo freaking angry that I literally saw stars!

The McCain campaign ~~ when they heard it was Brokaw ~~ suddenly all was cool with NBC.

Fuck that shit...I am so tired of the RWs controlling the media and being able to shut up commentators like KO.

Yeah, the librul press....GMAFB!

2. If the McCain camp is comfortable with Brokaw you KNOW it s NOT because Brokaw is objective,
but rather that Brokaw is in the bag for McCain. McCain has made it obvious that his campaign is trying to stifle any semblance of fair reporting about McCain.

I won't watch MSNBC when either Brokaw or Rove's dancing partner, Gregory are on. Let them chew on that when they see their ratings because I know I'm not the only one who feels that way. The right wingers will watch FOX no matter what. CNN is actually more objective than Gregory and Brokaw.

...has to be kidding themselves.

These RWs HATE Obama...it is not just that they are RWs...they are HATEFUL RWs. There is NO way they are gonna give Obama a fair break on anything. Their entire purpose is propaganda for Corporate America.

21. This is really a critical issue, isn't it, this 'hate' theme? The RWs are 'haters' pure
and simple, but because they own this issue, they spin it successfully against Dems with the help of partisan media hacks like Brokaw. Can't stand any of them. If the RWs get total control of the media and the nets, then the Public will be finally and totally screwn. And then, what's in store for us 'faux-haters'?

3. Why is Brokaw considered to be a "journalist"?
Edited on Tue Sep-30-08 07:28 AM by mwb970
Whatever Brokaw once was, he is today not by any standard a journalist. This is a man that is completely, totally, 150 percent in the tank for the Republican candidate, which is his prerogative to be, but let’s not be dishonest and call it something other than what it is.

And it seems only like a few of us liberals are upset. WTF gives with that?

Edited on Tue Sep-30-08 07:34 AM by EV_Ares
along with Rush Limbaugh about the ad that ran regarding McCain's health and his not releasing his medical records, and they pulled it. MSNBC is weak.

It is all about Brokaw:

""Brokaw said. "My name came up, and they said, 'Oh, hell, we have to do it, because it's going to be Brokaw.'""

How's this for irony: he wrote a book about "The Greatest Generation" even as he betrayed everything they stood for.

24. Shuttle diplomacy?
Tom Brokaw would give both sides a fair shake in politics during the debate with Obama and McPain? Boy is NBC all full of it as well as Brokaw. Brokaw is nothing but a sniveling weasel who loves to look at himself in the mirror and hear his name used in a crowd.

Brokaw is a cheap suit when it comes to reporting anything political. Thank goodness I don't watch that pompous jackass to get my news. He is such a twisted Republican supporter.

29. Gregory is sooooo boring
Nobody will watch MSNBC now. Chris Mathews at least keeps the energy level high. With Gregory it is just snooze time.

If they had kicked just KO to a lesser position it might be understandable. But I think they really screwed themselves by putting Gregory front and center. Sheesh.
