Breaking News: Dick Morris' 2008 Election Map Shows McCain Losing Even More Ground

Dick Morris' Analysis of the Map

The polls now make it clear that McCain lost the first debate, and has lost ground during the entire gambit of suspending his campaign, going off the trail, going to Washington, and working on the bailout. He was tied, or 1 to 2 percent behind when he made the suspension announcement, and he is now 5 to 6 percent behind.

The fallout in the electoral map does not make for a pretty picture. Core Republican states like Louisiana, Tennessee, West Virginia, Arizona, and North Carolina are now really toss ups, and even states like South Carolina and Georgia are in play.

4. WAY TO GO TENNESSEE!!!
I knew this wave was coming - this state has suffered for far to long at the hands of Bush and his ilk. When I saw McCain so far ahead a few months back, I was disgusted and confused because so many people are supporting Obama here in a very red area of the state.

We're in play!!!!!! GET OUT THE VOTE!!!

10. What the hell is wrong with that map?
Is Morris a total idiot? (Yeah, I know, rhetorical.) Missouri and Arkansas as leaning Obama? Tennessee, Louisiana and Arizona as tossups? Indiana as strongly McCain? (The problem with Indiana is that it is leaning much more towards Obama than most of the states I previously named.)

Very good map for us, but totally absurd.

18. It may be a lot more accurate than many polls for all we know
I don't think toesucker Morris would pull any punches for McCain. Maybe he is reading the handwriting on the walls? Who knows!

I do believe that most states are a lot closer than most polls predict. Honestly, Tennessee will probably swing McCain in the end, but it wont be a by a landslide. There's a lot of evidence on the ground here that Tennessee is a lot closer than the polls have been projecting. It's also quite well known here that a good chunk of the population uses cell phones rather than land lines and the youth and first time voters are already breaking records across the state.

25. Maybe - but it could also force McCain to spend money in places once thought "safe"
Honestly, I don't see this as any more or less credible than most any poll. There's no doubt that there's a groundswell of people that are fed up with the current situation economically and politically. I've long contended that Tennessee is a lot closer than most will acknowledge.

As Much As I Would LOVE To Believe This, Morris Is Pulling This Out Of His Ass
There's no data to support this that I'm aware of. Obama is definitely ahead and widening his lead, but I would love to see where he's getting his numbers from. As to his motiviation for doing this? I have no clue, it's a complete mystery considering what a Repub shill he usually is.

Dick Morris is one of the worst political analysts. He gets caught up in extremes. Not that this map is impossible it is crazy to predict this as anything but a longshot. I much prefer 538's in depth and statistical approach to electoral projections.

37. Indiana is NOT "Strongly McCain." Morris is not looking at recent state polls here
http://www.usaelectionpolls.com/2008/indiana.html

This link shows the most recent polls in Indiana, completed right before the bailout crisis, the debate, and McCain suspending his campaign. Most showed McCain with a two to three point lead, which is very, very close for Indiana, which has also had a huge number of new voter registrations this year. It is going to be a toss-up state, even though Indiana hasn't gone blue since 1964.

48. LA a tossup? FL and NH are deep blue? Where's his methodology?
I went to the link but it didn't have any info on how he came to these poll numbers so I can't really say I agree with him.

So it begs the question;
1) Is his map a crock of crap?
2) If his map is based on some solid polling from sources other than Rassmussen or Gallup, then is his map more reflective of 'reality' than the polling places?

So your guess is as good as mine.

AR and MO are not leaning to Obama and NC is leaning to Obama and FL is not strongly Obama. It is possible the map could end up like this but based on current polling and trends it is not likely. I think Morris was drunk when he did this.
