I think anybody with any kind of brain has known this economic mess was on the horizon. I think they all knew. Bush, Cheney, McCain, all of 'em.

If they could keep telling us the fundamentals were strong and hold it off until after the election, they could've completely blamed Barack and a Democratic Congress and been in great shape in four years time. Because I think they are also expecting the Democrats to win big in November. Put Obama in a sinking ship and then blame him.

I'm positive that in their reptilian minds they are all thinking, "Damn, if we could've just hung on through November".

The really scary part is that they ALMOST did.

the commentators were saying this economy will mean an 8 year term. That it can only get better in 4 years, not worse.

Well, Bartiromo said we have a resilient economy and that 2009 would be tough but starting in 2010 things will start getting much better. So Matthews chimed in and said that by the time 2012 comes along, the economy will have progressively gotten stronger throughout the President's first term and consequently he'd win an easy re-election.
