And, I thought this was very interesting..

From the Huff Post (care of Jed Lewison):

Panelists on this AM's special edition of Morning Joe were zeroed straight in on John McCain's angry debate performance last night.

Mika Brzezinski was particularly put-off by McCain's refusal to look at Barack Obama, which she said was not only rude, but made her wonder how McCain could debate issues if he couldn't even look at his opponent.

Joe Scarborough also thought McCain's demeanor reflected poorly on him, and Mike Barnicle thought McCain looked annoyed.

Even Pat Buchanan, who felt McCain won the debate, thought McCain's demeanor could very well be a negative for McCain.

What a haughty, paranoid jerk. This is how he treats the Des Moines Register? Yeah...they're just like the Washington cocktail circuit. He really thinks he answers to no one. :puke:

On edit: What America needs right now is a clenched jawed, sarcastic, contemptuous, petulant jerk, who's delicate feathers are ruffled by the DesMoines Register Editorial Board!

Well according to the bizarre ads McCain is running in Minnesota: Change is Coming!

dealing with domestic policy, I expect that they will run it. In my letter I asked why McCain said that the American people "don't want" government run health care but consistently accepts it, even tho he, unlike most of us, is in a position (even with his preexisting condition) to buy private insurance.

9. It makes me so sick and disgusted....
Edited on Tue Sep-30-08 11:58 PM by TwoSparkles
...to see McCain justify the ad that said that Obama was "for comprehensive sex
education for kindergartners' and then cut to a shot of Obama with a smarmy look
on his face, as if Obama he was looking down at a child--in a suggestive manner.

It was...so...sick.

Yes, Obama supported a bill that called for comprehensive K-6 sex education, but the
kindergarten portion of the bill was ONLY about teaching children about protecting
themselves against child sex predators.

I'm still so upset about that ad, that I can barely articulate my thoughts.

Does John McCain think that it's funny to lie about teaching sex to kindergartners?
Is John McCain against teaching kindergartners to protect themselves against sex predators?
Does John McCain think it's amusing or a neat trick to deceive the American public about
someone wanting to teach kindergartners about sex--when that's not the case?

It's just so beyond the pale. I wish we hadn't moved on from this subject, because
John McCain deserves to lose the election--solely on this ad alone.

It's reprehensible, evil and the most vile political ad EVER made in the history of this country.

McCain's dismissive nature didn't bother me. I guess I am accustomed to that one now. However, his flat out insistence that his lies were the truth really cut me the wrong way.

He lied. The program was not comprehensive for kindergarten students! It was comprehensive for the upper grades. The kindergarten students were going to be taught about "good touch/bad touch" type of stuff. Things that are imperative for a young child to learn. And to be honest, McCain's opposition to this makes me question whether he doesn't just LOOK like a dirty old man...

46. Oh, I understand all too well
He was saying you don't have to be an astronaut to understand the challenges of going into space -- and therefore you don't have to live without health insurance to know what that's like.

It was a false analogy to begin with, because as a pilot McCain has experienced many of the same challenges as an astronaut, if on a smaller scale. But he has never, ever been poor and struggling, and he clearly has no clue.

But beyond that, it was an example of something I'm starting to sense about McCain -- which is that he has almost no empathy in him for other people. When asked about challenges or suffering he either relates it to his own experience or it has no reality for him.

I think this may be why he keeps referring back to his POW experience. It isn't so much a campaign ploy as it is the only way in which a man without empathy can relate at least indirectly to the suffering of others.

71. He is an immoral bastard
His compassion was well demonstrated when he dumped his wife because she was crippled. The guy is a genuine asshole. When he was attending church services in Phoenix on giant-screen TV he was shown saying that his "greatest moral failure" was when he dumped his first wife. He attempted to mitigate his actions by saying in the interview with the Rev. Rick Warren, "I have been a very imperfect person." This is very indicative of his reasoning. Everyone is imperfect, so my moral failure is understandable. This is not some minor indiscretion, but a major decision to break a sacred vow he took that in sickness or in health until death do us part. It never ceases to amaze me how so-called Christians have no problem with outright hypocrisy. I can understand when divorce and separation can be warranted, but not in this case. It was predicated solely on his greed. What I also find appalling is that they have attempted to use the fact that his first wife has not condemned him, because she actually is a Christian, as justification for his actions. Well they attempt to argue, if his first wife doesn't condemn him for being an immoral cad, then you shouldn't either.

125. Typical sociopath response
Edited on Wed Oct-01-08 04:25 PM by Journalgrrl
Sociopaths think that those who suffer are actually sub-human... they believe in their own mond that they are superior, and that's why they can manipulate so well. they can even manipulate with emotion, but it is all an act, to get the sub-humans to buy their story and take them in...so they can then rape & pillage and take what they want. after all, if you are taking from someone who is "less than" then it can't be bad

really twisted way of perceiving the world. there was a post on DU months ago that called it something else, a socio-pathic government... really interesting. i will try and dig it up

edit! found it!

But just imagine McCain, freaking out and yelling about his pen and astronauts and making everyone call him the sheriff. Fucking a. You're right--he'd make Bush look like some sort of amazing statesman. Four years of that and none of us would even recognize a good leader if we saw one.

124. Most likely covered by taxpayers as a child too. His dad was
an admiral, so wouldn't it stand to reason his health care has been financed by taxpayers for his entire life, sans the time between the navy and his Congressional stint? He went to work for his father-in-law, and I'm sure his health care was the best. So he's been well taken care of, hasn't he? No worries.

I'm not complaining about receiving health care via his father's, then his own military career - the military must care for those who serve. The point is, but for a short period of time, his health care has been covered by taxpayers. The program works, and it can work for all of us, if there aren't assholes interfering (sabotaging) its implementation.

Edited on Wed Oct-01-08 12:48 AM by Old Crusoe
He's down by a formidable margin there and just last week reiterated his opposition to ethanol.

He should have called for the elimination of hog farming while he was in town and as well, denounced the Hawkeyes' football team as a bunch of wusses.

This guy is burning it down everywhere he goes.

47. I think this video clip is definitive proof that McLiar is
taking a lot of medications, and this is an instance where the effects of the medications had not exactly taken effect.

His entire demeanor is of a person who is about to break, both verbally and physically. He keeps shifting in his chair, clenching the jaw, being so condescending that he can barely contain himself. He is putting walls up after every statement and challenging the interviewers to just even try to push through those walls. He is all but completely losing it in these segments.

He is also very cornered on many levels. A large bookcase behind him, a chair between said case and a table that is encroaching on him, and directly across, out of camera view are the multiple, female interviewers. His campaign would be wise to never put him in a physical location like that during another interview. He is on the defensive before he is even asked any questions, and when they start, he is in such a compromised position because of his literal position in the room and because of the position his failing campaign has put him in over the past two months, that his fuse is 95% burned down.

There has to be a way to articulate these kinds of actions, behaviors, language, and sense of entitlement that this man feels in a statement from Obama either directly or through ads or speeches. This kind of man is terribly close to a serious breakdown on a level that if repeated often enough, warrants being committed or completely doped up and locked away in one of his seven homes. There is absolutely no sane person who could convince me that this type of personality would be anything but an enormous detriment to the United States.

Oh, and wow, just WOW. Epic failure number, how many is it now? I've lost count.

and that is McCain, a tick firmly embedded into the hide of the American Government.

This election cycle is a joke, probably a bet by Rove to the effect - I can make it look like this Brain dead Grampa can get elected while being investigated for High Crimes, and make the RNC a bit pot of money to defend us when Obama wins.

Trouble is -- Americans are stupid enough to fall for it.

48. As his folksy straight talk shtick has collapsed..
he seems to be losing his ability to control himself. I'm surprised that he didn't lash out personally at one of the women in the room with him. And while I think that Strom Thurmond was a deplorable bigot in his heyday, I can't imagine getting into a physical scuffle with a 92 year old man no longer in control of his faculties, as McCain did during the former's last term (I think) in the Senate.

He must be functioning in a state of constant rage these days. Whatever else was going on with his attitude towards Obama during the debate, he was clearly seething. I suspect that not looking at him was in part his way of keeping himself from blowing up. I can see his handlers telling him to pretend he was the only person in the room, as a coping technique.

You chose Palin, now live with it. If you let someone else pick her for you for political reasons, you're equally responsible. He clearly regrets his choice, he's tired of talking about her qualifications and her interviews but that's also his fault for choosing a dunce.

He has actually started to believe the bull they spout everyday: he actually thinks he's a victim, he actually thinks the media is playing "gotcha" by asking the potential VP questions. After he loses, he's going to end up crazy and muttering to himself about how he got screwed.

60. Most politicians aren't such blatant pricks.
They're like con men - likability is the "front" that lets them do their dirty deeds in the dark. Look at Huckabee - he comes across as a super-nice guy despite his crazy ideas. Even empty suit Romney is at least affable. You have to seem at least somewhat human in order to win votes, or so you would think.

Not John McCain. He comes across, as seen here, as an angry, arrogant asshole. He's basically a punk, the oldest punk I've ever seen or heard of. His bitter sarcasm against Obama and his general lying prickery make me sick to my stomach on a daily basis.

I already dislike McCain even more than bush, something I never would have thought possible! This dipshit is truly the very, very bottom of the barrel.

What else I love about this interview shows his contempt towards WOMEN-I haven't seen him display this behavior with male interviewers. Again, he chose airhead Palin, trying to get stoopid women's vote. Well guess what, Johnny boy? We ain't buying.

65. His arrogance is appalling
I am sure that lock-step Republicans would interpret his attitude as presidential. However, I believe that any foreign head of state would find his arrogant attitude to be less than acceptable. I am not saying this because I am a Democrat. I am an Independent because I saw in my own family what can happen to a person's objectivity when their loyalty to a party blocks their reasoning even to the extent when their loyalty is self destructive. It is my opinion that Republicans tend to be more inclined to be ideologues than Democrats. Democrats seem to be far more open to discussion, however, I will remain to be an Independent so I can maintain a degree of objectivity that finds McCain to be wholly an undesirable, if not dangerous, candidate and Palin to be an airhead.

70. McCain calling CONSERVATIVE Washington "elitists" (hahahahaha)
This should endear him to the Rich Lowry's of the world. "If there's somebody at a Georgetown cocktail party who calls himself a conservative..."

:wow:

That would be the staff of the National Review! Needless to say, he's still furious at this crowd for preferring Bush to him, and for preferring Romney to him, etc. He knows they loathe him, so if he can wiggle out of the obvious fear and disgust that is now circulating through conservative circle at the prospect of a Palin Vice-Presidency by sticking it to them, he's happy to do it. But the real question is how much shit these people will eat before they dump this guy. Do you think the editors of the National Review will put up with 4 years of insults from angry McCain, when they can make more money and bump up circulation four-fold under a hostile Obama presidency? C'mon.

Watch for the smile about half-way through.

I've had someone smile at me like that just before he tried to break my fingers.

starting to lash out. His poor judgement doesn't even need to be pointed out, it's glaringly obvious.

123. Could you imagine living with this horses ass?
We've had eight years of a president who is a dumb ass acting like a smart ass. I think that W. doesn't hold a candle to McCain's obvious temper problem. This guy could literally pop a blood vessel in his brain if put under too much pressure. His jaw is so clinched, I wonder if his super polident ever comes unglued.

they MAKE these people? Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, McCain, Barbara Bush, Reagan, Gramm, Armey, Helms, Gingrich, Lott, DeLay... like Charlie Brown used to say, "AAUUGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!'
