A post about a friend of mine, and political choice. |
|
I'm not giving up on this woman- I love her to death. We were out and about yesterday trying to find something to fix my heater.
We are starting to see yard signs here, a number of M/P ones. I commented "I wish people would get their heads out of their butts about McCombover and Failin!" She cut me a look and said "It's better than voting for a MIB wannabe!" ( I sent her pics of Mc and Obama- in sunglasses saying "The difference is that HE makes this look good!" about Obama.)
We spar every time we are together, it's good natured and alot of times I'll end it with saying "I know your a fool, but I still love ya!" to which she chokes, laughs and it's done.
I've hammered home all the issues she's interested in and she agrees with them, here's the odd thing. I'm starting to get the feeling that she's going to be voting Obama in Nov, but that she doesn't want to admit it because her entire family is R. She's even made the comment that her and her in laws have talked about O in a good way.
We are in NC, and this feeling can only be described as surreal. It's like a reverse of what normally happens, "I think they doth protest too much." and their heart just isn't in it.
Anyone else getting this where they are at?

1. My Mother was like that. Always voted GOP and yet she liked |
|
most of the stuff the Dem. did. All I ever could get out of her was"I have always voted in the GOP" Now my father always voted GOP also but he did not like what the Dem. did and that was his reason. I understood my father but never my mother's reasoning. I my self slowly left the GOP party and became a Dem. It took me years and I slowly voted first for local Dem. then moved on to the big guys in my vote. By the time RR came along I was on the books as a Dem. My first vote was for Ike. A lot, I think, is just habit of what your family does. I also was some what lazy in it as I did not read up on it when I was so busy with my children.

2. Well what's kind of funny- |

Is my husband is PD and I'm EMS, and typically people in those fields vote R. When people find out that we are rooting for Obama, the look of shock is priceless. I've had people actually say "But...isn't your husband a Police Officer?"
Yep, sure is. He just happens to be one of the good ones that believe in Human Rights!
He takes "Serve and Protect" to a whole new level.
I guess what I'm asking is, is anyone else getting the feeling from people they are talking to that they are so UNDER enthused about the M/P ticket that they are just mouthing the support and are intending on voting Obama later on?

3. I try not to talk politics much at work, but occasionally my boss will bring it up. |

He always votes GOP because he thinks the Republicans are better for small business as far as taxes and regulations. However, I've been trying for years to convince him that on most other issues he actually agrees with the Democratic platform. He is an intelligent, compassionate man, but he doesn't spend much time studying the issues.
The other day he asked me, out of the blue, what I thought of Sarah Palin. I told him that it scared me to death to think that if McCain was elected that she could wind up as President. He knew that I had supported Hillary during the primaries and seemed quite surprised that I wasn't more supportive of a woman having a chance to hold that office. He had seen parts of her convention speech and had apparently been impressed with it. I managed to tell him a few things about her and why I disagreed with her and the Republican positions on the issues before he had to take a phone call, but hopefully I gave him a few things to think about.
