You can find out who donates to Obama or McCain by searching on a name, town, occupation, etc
For those of you who don't know, you can find out if your neighbor, your cousin, your fiancee, or your boss has made political donations in the past and how much they donated. You can find out how many people donated to a political party from any town across the USA. It breaks each town down into how much money came from Democrats and how much from Republicans. I'm not sure how often they update it. I donated to Obama and my name isn't on there yet because I just donated recently, but I'm sure it will be included in their next update, whenever that will be. If you're thinking of moving somewhere, you can find out if the town you're considering moving to leans Democrat or Republican. Don't blame me if you end up spending hours searching on this.

Check it out if you don't already know about it:

4. If you donated just recently, you might not show up for a while
My own town hasn't been updated for at least a few weeks or more, nor is my name listed yet.

2. I Use CQ Moneyline
Found several people I work with and know. Sadly, many donated to McCain. Anyway, I think you have to reach a certain amount before you show up. Like $100 or something.

3. For some towns, I noticed that donors show up even if they contributed just a small amount
For others, depending on the size, they had what seemed like cutoff points for listing the donors. Some towns had listed anyone over $50 and some for donors who contributed $200 or better. I saw one that listed a donor who contributed $1. It varies.

6. Found myself in there.
I noticed that my donation total is a little out of date - guess it takes a while for my latest donations to the Obama campaign to show up...

7. Cool! Did you check out all the people in your town, too, to see which way it leans?

8. Thanks! It's a little old, though. About 1/2 of my donations aren't included. ()

9. I'm Not There.
Not even for 2004, when I contributed $250 to Kerry. Nothing shows for this year, either.

13. hmm, that's weird, especially the 2004 one not being posted
I could understand this year's not being up yet, especially if it was just done recently, but the old one should have been listed I would think.

11. Was your donation for this year a recent one?
Maybe it will still be on after they update it. I don't think they update it very often.

BTW, did you realize you were listed online for your 2004 donation? Pretty cool, eh? I hope they get better at accurately updating peoples' names, though.

12. There's been several, since about July...
But those were to the Obama campaign directly, not the DNC. There's one recent one for the DNC, too, which might not be up yet. I wonder if this only shows contributions for certain groups.

I'm not sure I'm entirely comfortable with a Google map to my address being tied to my political beliefs, but that's just the ol' paranoia. It'll pass.
