This is awesome! I sent my aunt (a totally cool and liberal 78 yr-old PhD nun) the link that I found here on DU to Roger Ebert's column re the debate and the fact that McCain totally dissed Obama by never looking at him. My aunt sent Roger this note:
I want to thank you, Mr. Ebert, for this clear, thoughtful response to the attitude so many of us noted during the debate Friday night. I have been a fan of yours for years (since I saw you at Park City, Utah, reviewing the movie about the Mormon will), and have appreciated the reasoned way you have always responded to films and film-making. I have prayed for you through your bouts of illness, and rejoiced that you are back with us with your wit and intelligence. Your remarks about John McCain should help people reflect on what was being expressed during the debate. What a refreshing and marvelous thing it would be to have a president who is intelligent, thoughtful, open, and willing to negotiate!
Thank you again for your insightful comments.

Roger's reply:
Agreed!
And I would like to observe that even in 1948-56, the Dominican
Sisters taught us about evolution and explained that Genesis wasn't
meant to be taken literally. Our school didn't have much money, but
when we graduated we could read, write and spell like crazy!
Cheers,
