Voter purges: If you live in one of these states, please call your Secretary of State.
Edited on Wed Oct-01-08 12:37 PM by beat tk
Here is a list of SOS contact information for all states:
http://www.nased.org/membership.htm

These states are unaware of the 90 day limit on voter purges, as reported by CBS News,
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/09/30/eveningnews/main4490682.shtml
and USPIRG
http://www.uspirg.org/newsroom/voting/voting-news/washington-d.c.-nineteen-states-not-enforcing-federal-laws-on-voter-lists

The Brennan Center also just released a report called "Voter Purges" which is discussed in the CBS report,
http://www.brennancenter.org/content/resource/voter_purges

When you speak with the SOS/Elections Office, please ask them what they are doing to protect the National Voter Registration Act's 90 day purge limit. Also, please mention that you heard the story in the news (CBS for example)

Alabama
Colorado
Connecticut
Delaware
Hawaii
Illinois
Iowa
Kansas
Maryland
Massachusetts
Nebraska
Nevada
New Jersey
New York
Ohio
Oklahoma
Rhode Island
Texas
Washington.

This is relevant to GDP because, as we know, certain "types" of voters are more likely to be affected.
I would very much like to see the CBS report start some buzz on this issue.
Also, if you are tired of me posting about this, please feel free to tell me to shut up :hi:

Edit to add:

If you know of or suspect a specific voting rights violation, the Attorney General's office really wants to hear from you. I spoke with them this morning. The number is (202) 307 2767

:patriot:

2. Its too important not to post more than once. You don't always see something on this board so it is
good to bring everyone's attention to this. All you have to do is skip over it if you have seen it.

Thanks for posting.

3. Ohio's SoS Jennifer Brunner has already addressed this...
...and I trust that she won't stop there.

LINK.

Not that I don't think they'll try something, but I believe they won't get away with anything this time if they do. At least in OH.

12. you're most welcome... with a Dem SoS and Gov, this time...
...they're on the case. The most encouraging thing I read when I googled "Ohio Jennifer Brunner caging" was a hit piece on the Ohio GOP website screaming for her resignation because she's a "bully" and "intimidated" and removed BOE officials who didn't see things her way. Haaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahaha! Take that, you lying nasty little trolls. You're not going to get away with that shit this time. NOT THIS TIME. :)

(I hope!)

5. The fact that CBS has reported it makes it easier for us to push the info.

(Remember that those of us who alerted on this practice back in '04 were fitted for a shiny tin bonnet)

There is really NOTHING more important than this. The states are BREAKING THE LAW and they must be stopped, before the election.

The only thing that can defeat Obama in this election is for his supporters to be turned away from the polls.

The repugs cannot ..repeat CAN NOT win this election without cheating.

6. How refreshing NOT to see Florida listed!
I guess that means we've already finished purging our rolls.

10. haha. I just read something about how some 2004 purges were based on an 80% match between your name
and a felon's name.

You guys are silly!

9. Nevada has a Dem Sec. of State, Colorado has a Rep, Sec. of State but
Colorado has a Democratic governor. Hopefully, the Dem governor will have the power to make sure too much bad doesn't happen.

11. New Mexico is a battleground and it's not there; thank goodness! We need those Dem governors, gang!
My own state isn't there either (AZ), but it's pretty much a lock on the wrong side this year.
