Would You Rather Control Congress or the Presidency? |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-01-08 12:31 PM by Median Democrat
I think the GOP has made its choice by devoting the bulk of RNC money to the Presidency. The Presidency controls the vast federal agency machinery that runs the Federal government on a daily basis, and it is the bully pulpit, while most people have a poor impression of Congress as an entity. This is why I think the GOP will stop at nothing to win the Presidency, and McCain is continuing to break new ground as a liar.
Also, Big Media has stopped calling McCain's attacks for what they are, lies. For example, Big Media has stopped mentioning that Palin's daily thanks, but no thanks to the Bridge to Nowhere claim is a lie.

1. The presidency for the very reasons you stated. Both is the ideal, |
|
but if you have only one choice, the one who controls all the agencies, and the veto pen in the one you want!

2. Dems have been all over that one since 1994. |
|
The 'or' is just not adequate. Especially with the crises we are in, we NEED both.

3. Depends on how popular the President and how good of a Speaker you have |
|
If a Democratic Congress could wield the kind of power that Newt Gingrich and the Republicans did in 1995 then it might be more advantageous to control Congress. Otherwise, though, I would say the Presidency.
