This is in reference to those reoccurring threads topics
on the same story. I'm not putting that debate down
but wanted to make a point on who she was debating.

The Man Who Debated Palin: "Against such charms there is little Senator Biden, or anyone, can do."

Edited on Wed Oct-01-08 06:44 PM by Blue_In_AK
and is a policy wonk. I'm not sure why you left these things out of his biography

Continuing Professional Education:
Kennedy School of Government - Harvard University 2003
Harvard Business School 2004

Political and Government Positions:
Alaska State House of Representatives 1999-2003
Chair House Transportation Committee
Vice Chair House Transportation Committee
Co-Chair Community & Regional Affairs Committee
Vice Chair Labor & Commerce Committee
University of Alaska Budget Sub-Committee
Administration Department Budget Sub-Committee
Fiscal Policy Caucus

Public Service Recognition:
Best Majority Lawmaker 2002, Alaska Legislative Digest
Best Business Lawmaker 2002, Alaska Legislative Digest
Guardian of Small Business Award, NFIB
Low Income Housing Advocate Award, ANHS

Community Positions:
Chair: Sand Lake Community Council 1996-1998
Member: Anch. School District Citizens Budget Task Force 1995 & 2003
Municipal Budget Advisory Commission 1998
Mayor's Transition Team 2003

but he knows quite a lot about government, not just renting cars. I watched those debates and Sarah did do well against both Andrew and Tony Knowles, who as you probably know was Anchorage's mayor for six years and Alaska's governor for eight, 1994-2002.

I don't think Biden will have any problems handling her, of course, but she does have a great deal of charisma when she wants to, and the base will probably love her no matter what she does.

I hope you perused Andrew's blog for a bit before you decided to minimize his qualifications for governor. He has been a consistent critic of Sarah in the intervening years since the debate and was the first to question her firing of Walt Monegan which led to the Troopergate investigation. He's something of a hero here in the progressive community.

10. Actually that speaks volumes
That someone so educated and bright would be a car wash manager - speaks volumes of the state of America. Or, perhaps he just wanted to help out the family business.

14. You don't understand.
Avis was his family's business since 1955, well before he was born, and continues to be. If you do the math, you will see that he was the "carwash manager" 28 years ago when he wsa 16 to 18 years old. He steadily moved up in the business, taking time to be in the legislature and run for governor, and is now the director of business development at Avis and is doing quite well for himself. He also does radio, his blog and occasional columns in the Anchorage Daily News. I don't know what you think is wrong with a 16-year-old kid being a carwash manager, but I personally think it's kind of commendable that he would start at the bottom in his family's business and stick with it.

19. I don't think people are taking the time to read your post. Thank
you for clearing up his qualifications and experience. Reducing him to a car wash manager is implying that he was some uneducated person that deserved to have a hard time debating Palin. I read the information in your post and understand what you are saying.

I like Andrew, and I have a special warm spot in my heart for him because he hasn't let up on Sarah at all since 2006, even in the face of her former 82% approval rating. He's taken a lot of hits from certain quarters here, being accused of "sour grapes" and being a poor loser, etc. etc., but now that all of Sarah's secrets are starting to come out, we see just how right he's been all along. My husband almost voted for him in 2006, but when it came down to it, we both ended up voting for Tony Knowles. However, Andrew certainly was a much more qualified candidate than Sarah Palin, by a long shot. It was frustrating to watch her bat her eyelashes and turn on the charm in those debates while refusing to answer any questions directly. Just like now, everything she said lacked substance, and still she managed to pull it off.

Last time I read his blog in a comment he said he was a registered Republican and won't vote for Obama, but he wasn't sure he would vote for POTUS at all. Shame.

33. I'm sure he's thinking long and hard about it.
I wish he'd vote for Obama, too, but it's a big step for a long-time conservative Republican to take. I feel fairly certain he'll not vote for a ticket with Sarah on it, though, especially given McCain's age.
