Bush not eligible for Alabama, South Dakota?

The guy at http://www.electoral-vote.com/ says that
candidates had to be on the ballot by Aug 31, but that Bush
isn't the official candidate until tonight!!! WTF?

Here is his remarks:
<snip>

The biggest news today is that Bush is going to win Alabama and
South Dakota by landslides, 20% in the former and 16% in the latter.
If he gets on the ballot. Technically, candidates have to file
in Alabama before Aug. 31 and the Republicans didn't have a candidate
by Aug. 31. Maybe they will make an exception this time.

<snip>

Is this a real issue?

Has this been discussed here already?

1. Same is true of Illinois. Take it to the Supreme Court.
We are sure to get an impartial judgment!

3. They didn't HAVE to have the convention on 9/2

That was THEIR decision. Why SHOULD an exception be made? Bush can be written in on the ballot if need be.

Hey, maybe THIS is the Ocotober surprise--postpone the election until this is straightened out!

4. Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance!
What does this tell you about the Republican's ability to plan?

Even if he does get on the ballots, this could be a major embarrassment!

5. I hate to burst your bubble (it's such a pretty bubble, too)
The RNC probably placed Bush on the ballot before the deadline. As he was running for the candidacy unopposed, the RNC has that latitude. The convention is more a formality than anything nowadays.

6. But doesn't this bring into questions donation and spending limits?
I think there is a problem for them, though with the SCOTUS they'll just skate through it...

7. Where's Jim Baker and Kathrine Harris
making sure that the everything is being done to the letter of the law?

Remember when Kathrine couldn't give WPB, 5 more minutes to finish their recount?

Now the Bu$h Campaign has no regard for the law, they are just doing whatever they please.
