My Canvassing Results from Last Night in North Central Indiana: |
|
NOTE: This was my report to my Obama canvassers last night! We're getting numbers like this all the time. We are in north central Indiana--small county of 50k--surrounded by rural area/corn fields...strong Republican area...don't let the polls fool you for Indiana, we haven't had numbers like this for a long, long time.....we are polling Republicans and Independents, not only the strong Dems. I bypassed many strong Dem households while canvassing!!! They weren't on the lists!
Total Doors Knocked: 124 Contacts: 73 Strong Obama: 41 (including those in household but not on list) Lean Obama: 3 Undecided: 20 Lean McSame: 0 Strong McLame: 6 Not Home: 63 Moved: 7 Refused: 1 Vacant: 2 Inaccessible: 3 Not Voting: 1 Not a Citizen: 1 Strong Donnelly: 23 Undecided Donnelly: 14 Strong Puckett: 4 Strong JLT: 23 Undecided JLT: 14 Strong Daniels: 4 Lean Other: 1 5 registrations (not everybody captured Donnelly & JLT on every contact as some contacts were short on offering opinion) The major mood I got from this evening's canvass was from the undecideds. A few of them expressed their anger at both parties regarding the economy & bailout. I could not pull from them what it was they weren't decided on exactly--whether it was between the 2 candidates, or between not voting/voting McCain, or not voting/voting Obama. I have a feeling it was a mixture depending on the person's identity with a certain party. Each undecided seemed angry and disgusted with their own respective party but didn't want to vote for the "other" guy. So I bet their votes are hinged on either voting for their guy or not voting for either presidential candidate. I may just be reading into things, though. But I felt I could not sway them either way right now. Their discontent of politics in general was too high. The ones who were Democrats or for Obama appeared Democrat all the way and vice versa for the Republicans with maybe one or 2 exceptions of the ones I contacted. There weren't hardly any leaners in my experiences.

that you haven't received one comment or one recommend for this post.
I think everyone right now, including myself, is in a tizzy over the debate tonight.
Thanks for taking the time to post this. I love to hear first hand anecdotes from people working on the ground. I think it gives a much better sense of what is going on than polls.

You guys are kicking butt in a place where the Indiana Democratic Party generally fears to tread. Good on all of you. Keep it up. We'll keep working down here to deliver Marion County and the donut counties for you.

6. I'm in charge of the canvassing. This was 3 groups. |
|
We (the local Obama group) go every Wednesday evening and on Sundays. The Dem party has been going out every Monday, Thursday & some Saturdays. The unions also go out separately, too. Sometimes we hit the same doors because we aren'tas coordinated as we should be but we're getting them ID'd in time for GOTV!!!

10. Sister in law texts me from Kokomo this morning |
|
My neighbor has a McCain sign, I want an Obama one. I told her to contact her local Obama office and see if they had any. She texts me back. they told her that they went through all 100 of them in 48 hours! So, I told her where to order one. Good news in a town like Kokomo.

14. We haven't received hardly any from the camaign--10 exactly. |
|
Any others here in town are what people have bought themselves online. Twopeople have asked for large signs on the main drags but don't know where or how to get one. The campaign from Lafayette doesn't have any to give. We've got a lot of upset people here about the sign problem.
