Is he REALLY bombing? Really?? Try to be objective. |
|
So, how will it be received? I'm not watching, but know that our hate sometimes clouds our perception.

I read the transcript, and I was pleasantly surprised by how bland it was. Even with people who don't know that most of what he's saying is a lie, I don't see how this is going to get him any momentum back.

I can't possibly be objective about this little fuckturd, but I don't think he's doing particularly well.
All this shit about kids - he hasn't fully funded No Child Left Behind, and meanwhile, over the past four years, several million more children have slipped under the poverty line.
Blech.

The media's gonna turn that into "effective" and "strong".

|
He's talking so slowly and it's obvious they kept it simple. Now, he gave out his web address and then smiled like he stuck in his thumb and pulled out a plum. How embarrassing since he stole it from Kerry.
This seems so simplistic. And he's still a beady eyed prick.

with no party affiliation and her reaction was:
"Eh. Sounds like a stump speech. I've pretty much heard all this before."
So there you go. Just one moderate, but I like to keep in touch with them to see how the wind blows, because you are right, I am VERY highly biased against him and the GOP.

He is SO PRESIDENTIAL! HE REALLY HIT IT OUT OF THE PARK! GOD HELP JOHN KERRY! THE RACE OFFICIALLY BECAME BUSH"S TO LOSE. HE ANSWERED ALL MY QUESTIONS. WHY WOULD ANYONE VOTE FOR ANYONE ELSE? THAT IS THE WAR PRESIDENT!
SO okay, it will be touted as a home run. But in my humble opinion, it is like CHinese food. No one will remember it tomorrow.

I think he will get the indy voters who really WANT to believe that he will give them the tax breaks he's tlaking about.. the homeland security they think he can deliver...
but I think Kerry can really win more swing voters over.

He is saying all the old lines -- facing terra there so we don't face it at home, etc.
But since he is able to successfully read the lines, I'm sure it will be viewed as a "success" and "crisp" and "visionary"

To be kind, it's the best speech of the Convention.
But that isn't saying much.
It's the same old cliches and catchphrases that we've heard before. Nothing exciting. He promises a few things, but why is this the first we've heard of it? He's already had 3 1/2 years to do it.
Dwells on the same old red meat GOP base stuff (defense of marriage, terra, Iraq, Kerry and Hollywood, evil IRS, etc.). Puts up vague statements, but doesn't explain how it will help (tax code reform).
All in all, about what I expected. I knew it wouldn't be a horrible speech, but I figured it would be fairly predictable.
Kerry, on the other hand, surprised many with his passion during his speech at the DNC Convention. I do wish he would have spent more time talking about his Senate career, since he accomplished a lot. The POW/MIA thing and the BCCI scandal are worth talking about.
So, my grade of Bush's speech (trying to be as objective as possible): A grade of 'C'. I'll bet I'm the kindest to his speech of anyone on DU.
