10. From the Board that licenses me as a CPA
per diem is an expense reimbursement - therefore, not taxable

12. Not for her husbands and kids, it isn't. She took them traveling with her
and she got paid for their expenses. That is absolutely taxable income.

13. Perhaps Palin should hire you to do their taxes instead
of what ever CPA they surely used last year. IRS must be slipping to have missed mistakes on a Governor's taxes

15. Happens in my state all the time. Same excuse as AK Division of Finance gave
I will try to find the story I read when this issue first came up. I thought at the time it was going to be a big deal and it was not.
Maybe it will have legs this time. We can hope.

Also - thanks to the next poster for the Welcome, but I am not really new. About 6 weeks ago I got a new user name - long story about being abused by an idiot, so the easiest thing was to start with a new user name.

17. Even the IRS misses things occasionaly
But even in our current state of partisan government corruption, I tend to trust that the IRS, when aware of abuse, will take action.

I have to say, its a bit wierd to feel like the IRS is the best part of the govt.

16. 9% taxes in 2006?
Must be nice.

In 2006, my wife and I made about $6,000 more dollars than the Palins and paid about $15,000 more in state and federal taxes.

Cheap ass Republicans probably didn't even pay for ONE goddamn JDAM to blow up brown people in the middle east so we 'mericans can stay safe.

19. I thought it odd that their income went up 45K in one year.
Anyone else get that kind of a raise, in one year?? I didn't. It was supposedly on the W2, so it was not additional income, but I'm not sure if it was because she went from mayor to Gov. What year did she become Gov??

20. When are per diem payments taxable?
http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-regs/perdiemfaq&a.prn.pdf

Payments will be taxable to the employee when any of these situations are true:

· No expense report is filed with the employer,

· The expense report filed does not include the date, time, place, amount and business purpose of the expense,

· A flat amount is given to the employee and no expense report is required, or

· Per diem is paid in excess of the allowable standard federal rate.

These per diem payments listed above would be treated as wages and employment taxes are due from the
employer.
