Hey, Delawarians, illinoisers (or whatever you guys call yourselves) who will |
|
replace Biden in the Senate? Who will replace Obama? I know that in Delaware, the guv (dem) names a replacement. I don't know what happens in Illinois. Any informed opinions about who will replace Obama and Biden should they win?

2. We don't know here in IL our governor who is dem and hugely unpopular |
|
gets to decide who will be the senator. It could be Rham Emmanuel. I'm hoping it will be Jan Sharkowski or Jesse Jackson Jr. I'm sure Obama will have some pull in deciding who will take the seat. But, gov Blago is very pigheaded and doesn't play well with others including those in his own party. But, I'm kinda hoping he will respect the future president of the United States.

Sharkowski is a chair in Obama's election committee. I like Jackson Jr., too. He also has a great voting record and it would be very sad if we can't keep the senate 1% African American.

5. We had a major democratic primary for govenor |
|
And there was a surprise upset with Jack Markell winning that election. Since the republicans don't have a strong candidate, Markell is pretty much the next governor. I'm guessing Jim Carney will get governor. I don't think any of the Biden sons are available for the position (Beau just left for Iraq)

14. Jack Markell will be a damn good governor! |
|
I know Jack. We participated in some workshops on financial literacy and related issues a few years ago. he's as smart a guy as you can hope to have in your corner office.

15. But here's the thing about Markell and Carney |
|
Edited on Sat Oct-04-08 11:03 AM by LynneSin
Carney is alot like Tom Carper, a moderate democrat and personally I don't want another moderate democrat in the senate. I would rather have had Carney as my governor and Jack Markell headed to DC. But I guess as long as they don't put Carney on the Judiciary committee (Carper was one of those 'Gang of 14' senators who caved to the repukes on the judges) then I could probably stomach him in the seat until Beau gets back from Iraq and runs for dad's old senate seat.
I'm wondering if Carney let it slip at the end knowing that he would get that senate seat in return.

6. I have a feeling Blagojevich here in Illinois will choose Lisa Madigan |
|
The current very popular Attorney General here. Purely political reasons. Madigan is not ruling out running in the primary for Governor in 2010. Appointing Madigan to the Senate would remove her as a primary opponent for Blagojevich.

8. Madigan would be fantastic. |

As Gov. or Sen. But I think Senator is better, so she doesn't get dragged down with Blagojevic in the corruption tsunami that's coming.

:hide:
Talk about getting someone out of the way...and rising to your level of incompetency. I don't know who people hate more around here...him or Blago.
On the Senate, while I'd prefer Lisa to run for Gov. in 2010...and/or Pat Quinn (if he's not Gov. already)...I've heard the names of either Jan Schakowsky or Jesse Jackson Jr. being thrown around. The babble I was hearing mentioned that since Obama was the lone black Senator, his replacements would also be black.
With Obama's term ending in 2010, who ever is appointed would have a real short term before they'd have to run for the seat outright.
Cheers...

As Pat Quinn. Hell, as any other Democrat besides Rod "I'm just one step ahead from indictment" Blagojevich. I truly despise Blagojevich now.

10. In DE, I certainly hope Biden wins Senate reelection |
|
Edited on Sat Oct-04-08 08:17 AM by woodsprite
so Minner or the new Gov can replace him. I certainly don't want talking-head Repub fundie Christine O'Donnell to win it just because people think they can't vote for Biden for both VP and Senator. She's like a DE version of Sarah Palin. One of her 'selling' points is she wants to bring Reaganomics into the 21st century. I don't think people are going to know that Biden is running a reelection for Senate. I haven't seen any Biden for Senate signs (this is Newark), but I have seen quite a few O'Donnell signs.
We had 2 really good Dems running for the Primary for Governor. Markell won, so thats leave Lt. Gov. Carney open for appointment. Don't know if he'd accept or not since it would mean alot of time away from his family, but I'd be happy with that. He's got alot of good ideas and I think he could serve DE well in the Senate.

16. HAHAHAHA you're joking right! If you thought Palin was a Barbie Doll look who is running against Joe |
|
for senate http://www.electoral-vote.com/evp2008/Senate/senate_races.htmlI shit you not! Although she probably is alot smarter and better educated than Palin, she's just as hardcore right wing and uber xtian fundie. If she gets 30% of the votes that's a good day for her. Biden isn't even campaigning and he'll win in a landslide

11. Tammy Duckworth is considered to be the Governor's choice in Illinois. . . |
|
. . .however I'm still thinking Jesse Jr. because we may need to replace the only African American in the Senate with another African American.
