Can Obama thwart McCain's 'Operation Sludge' for the next month? Expect to see McCain reach new lows on a daily basis. Barack needs to be prepared to take preemptive measures.

1. How's he going to do it in the debate?

I can see him bringing up "bitter" in an economic context, but what about the other crap?

Lehrer: "Sen. McCain, your response to Sen. Obama's health care proposal."

McCain: "Well Jim, I don't think we can trust a man to run our health care system who sat in a pew for twenty years with Rev. Wright saying "God damn America."

3. We've thwarted Operation Sludge since he won the nomination.
We can weather the storm for a little longer if necessary.

4. How can any sensible person say
Barack's a Muslim and then bash him for having the wrong Christian pastor?

9. Right.
I have an old friend who I knew from my employment in the 1980s (he worked in another agency), who I am still in contact with. He is frightened of Obama, not because of who Obama is, but as the result of the type of nonsense you mention. In the past week, he has e-mailed me some of the hateful things that the republicans are sending out. I've made very clear to him that: (a) these are disinformation; and (b) I have no interest in seeing and/or discussing them.

I compare that to the much larger number of people I know who may have had some questions about Obama during the primaries, and even before the convention, who now are solidly behind the democratic ticket. Many of them have been exposed, at some time or another, to the hateful republican disinformation campaign. The recognition that Obama has been the target of yet another dishonest smear campaign has, I believe, helped convince them to support the democratic nominee.

The hate and fear campaign will be in full force. The vast majority of the voting public will consider it another reason to vote for Obama and Biden.
