Oct. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Barack Obama, after three weeks of focusing on the economy, attacked presidential rival John McCain for offering a ``radical'' and ``out of touch'' health care plan that would raise taxes.

``It's not that he doesn't care about what people are going through, I just think he doesn't know,'' Obama, 47, said in Newport News, Virginia. ``That's the only reason I can think of that he'd propose a health care plan that is so radical, so out of touch with what you're facing, and so out of line with our basic values.''...

...``You see, Senator McCain would pay for his plan, in part, by taxing your health-care benefits for the first time in history,'' Obama told the 18,000-person outdoor rally. ``It's a shell game. He gives you a tax credit with one hand, but raises your taxes with the other.''...

...Obama's campaign released new health-care focused radio and television advertisements as well as mailers in key swing states this week, though they would not specify which ones. In one ad released today, called ``One Word,'' an announcer calls McCain's plan to tax benefits, ``a multi-trillion dollar tax hike, the largest middle-class tax increase in history.''
