Small town southern Indiana Democrats averse to Obama yard signs...
Edited on Sun Oct-05-08 12:00 PM by barnabas63
I'm visiting south western Indiana currently, and am appalled that even so-called local Democratic leaders in the area seem averse to putting up signs supporting Obama. The county president of the party doesn't have an Obama sign in their yard, but has every other Democrat represented - especially local ones. I suppose there could be a number of reasons. I suspect it's racism.

Obama has a chance of winning Vanderburgh county, I suppose, but the rest of southern Indiana seems happy, at least on the surface, with Republicans in national leadership.

1. Wait a minute.
They're in short supply here in Denver - can't imagine what it's like to get a yard sign in a small town. Don't sell them short that fast.

2. Even the county bigwigs?

Relatives have some anecdotes they've told me that make me think otherwise, but you could be right. Hope so.

5. If the truck doesn't come, it doesn't come.
Bigwigs get the first box, of course, but if there's no box, it could mean driving to the nearest large city - and even THEY may not have any.

You could be right, of course, but I'd give them the benefit of the doubt, because it's certainly a problem here.

6. I've heard here in Ohio that rural Obama supporters are putting signs in fields...
...so that they're not calling attention to themselves with their support. So, yes, I can see why some other reasons why rural, southern Indiana Dems are a little hesitant to show support. It saddens -- and angers -- me.

4. Could it be fear?I live in Ga. and am what they call a damn yankee.
I won't put an Obama sign in my yard nor a bumper sticker on the car BECAUSE the Pubbies aroud here are politically nasty! People's cars have been keyed, yards trashed etc, and I just don't need anything like that!

I wear my Obama button, and even get dirty looks for THAT!

7. Don't live in fear, fear is the mind killer
You cannot be responsible for other's actions but you can step up and be true to yourself without fear.

8. Ummm, my mom works with the yard signs in that area (as part of a committee)
and they can't keep them in stock.

So yeah...there's that.
