Before you post another thread concerning the lack of yard signs, read this |
|
http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/09/breaking-obama-campaign-organizers.htmlYard signs don't win votes in national elections where the candidate has 100% name ID and especially not in this increasingly paperless age. Not to mention the fact that printing fewer yard signs is good for the environment.

1. There are MANY more yard signs in my hood (I live in LA though haha) I've never seen a McCain one |
|
or bumper sticker compared to the dozens and dozens of Obama stickers.

5. It also depends on location |
|
If you just drove around the rural areas of Michigan, or certain cities, you'd think it was a red state. Demographics shift rapidly in a lot of states.

9. The only thing Yard signs are good for are Volunteer Recruitment |
|
The people who are willing to volunteer will wait and the campaign will get them eventually after they show up.
The people who show up demanding one think that a yard sign is volunteering and get angry over the fact that we don't have them. They will vote for us anyway but won't lift a finger to help past a Yard sign.

I find it rather refreshing to not have a sign war going on in the hoods.

The only people who put up yard signs are activists. So, if you want to poll the activists in your neighborhood, then do it. Here in Texas it is a common practice to pay people to put up signs in highly visible locations. Both Republicans and Democrats do it.

18. One guy up the street had a McCain sign until yesterday. |
|
The wife and I drove by and noticed it was gone, after being in his yeard for about 2 weeks.
I speculated that it may have been stolen. The wife thinks the guy took it down out of embarrassment.

20. Good luck even GETTING an Obama sign.. |
|
I ordered my first 5 back during the primary.. but didn't put it up until Hillary dropped out. 3 days after that the first one was stolen. We also gave 1 to my mom, and 1 to my best friend. Both of theirs were also stolen. We put out the 2nd one in mid-August. It lasted a week.. and then was stolen as well.
The last one went up about 3 weeks ago. It lasted 4 days - and then was also stolen.
I ordered 6 new signs from barackobama.com the next day (3 weeks ago). They still haven't arrived.
So - there are 3 yards with no Obama signs that would like to have them. I don't think signs are a huge priority for Obama this election.. he's spending his time, effort and money elsewhere... probably where it will get a bigger impact. :)
