SUGGEST A COMEBACK OBAMA CAN USE IN THE DEBATE THREAD
Edited on Sun Oct-05-08 05:12 PM by trailer5533
this THREAD is so we can give the camp advice for tues

i see it playing out like this

mccain: you bought your house from a criminal and your friend is a terrorist

obama: john mccain knows i've already denouced ayers crimes, in which he committed when i was just 8 years old, john knows the board we sat on had republicans, and had richard daley, who prosecuted bill ayers's wife, but this is just more proof that john mccain is not in the center of politics, and shows he is taking his marching orders george bush, and far right nut cases like sean hannity, i can stand here all night and talk about john's past with the keating 5 scandal, viki iseman, and ollie north, but if we do go there john mccain doesn't lose, barack obama doesn't lose, but the people in this audience lose because we're not talking job loss, or gas prices or paying college, so john i will not pay your game, but if you do it shows you don't need the presidency, you need anger management.

3. Obama says...
"This is what you wanna talk about John? This is how you are going to help the American people get out of debt? The American people are struggling and all you want to focus on is Karl Rove style character assasinations. Your backwards thinking is why its time to turn the page on you and the Bush administration"

Then he should start talking about the economy.

20. That's what I think too
There's a reason McCain wants to drag the campaign away from issues like that.

"How many planes did you crash while in the navy, other then the one you had shot out from under you? Four? or was it five? , and how many men did you kill on the Forestall?"

6. I met Mr. Ayers while volunteering on a charity board back in 1995.
At that time, I was not aware of his associations that took place when I was 8 years old. John, please tell me how you have the time during in this busy campaign to reasearch the backgrounds of every person who you have never met, but may run into before you even meet them?

Instead of spending my time doing that, I like to multi-task by running a presidential campaign, helping fellow democrats in the senate work on creating a bill to help bailout mainstreet, and work on coming up with ideas to help republicans and small businesses by increasing the FDIC limits from $100,000 to $250,000, I also find it more benificial to focus on discussing issues that Americans find important right now, like how we can better fix the healthcare and the educational problems that our country is currently facing.

7. Begala had a great perspective on this on "Meet the Press"...
Edited on Sun Oct-05-08 05:03 PM by chupacabranation
...he said that McCain, under no circumstances, wants to get into the "guilt by association" game. His Beltway files are far too deep for him to be playing this game.

From the "Meet the Press" transcript:

"This guilt by association path is going to be trouble ultimately for the McCain campaign. You know, you can go back—I’ve written a book about McCain. I had a dozen researchers go through him. I didn’t even put this in the book. But John McCain sat on the board of a very right-wing organization. It was the U.S. Council for World Freedom. It was chaired by a guy named John Singlaub, who wound up involved in the Iran-Contra scandal. It was an ultraconservative right-wing group. The Anti-Defamation League, in 1981, when McCain was on the board, said this about this organization. It was affiliated with the World Anti-Communist League, the parent organization, which ADL said, “has increasingly become a gathering place, a forum, a point of contact for extremists, racists and Anti-Semites.” Now, that’s not John McCain. I don’t think he is that. But, but, you know, the problem is that a lot of people know John McCain’s record better than Governor Palin, and he does not want to play guilt by association or this thing could blow up in his face."

I agree that there's a lot of associative links the Obama campaign could be using. Keating 5 comes to mind.

11. An Obama version of "There you go again." just close enough to mindf*ck Reaganites.
Edited on Sun Oct-05-08 05:18 PM by Frumious B
McCain: Wright...Ayers...Terror...Obama...Taxes
Obama: There's that line again, John. You obviously think it's more important to spend this debate attacking me personally than telling the American people how you are going to deal with the challenges that face our nation.

16.  "There you go again" is awesome.
Follow it with a reference to the September 2 statement by McCain's campaign manager that this election would not be about issues. And end with a statement that this country has been led for the last 7 years by small and bitter men who would not tell the country the truth and it is time for a change.

18. Here's my response...
I recall once hearing an interview with a veteran politician. He said that when a campaign has to rely on going negative and character assassinations, it means that they are admitting that they have no vision at all for the future of this country.

That politician's name was John McCain.

21. John McCain will do anything not to have to talk about the middle class and their needs.
He'll bring up any topic that can possibly cloud the discussion on how the Democrats plan on growing the middle class. The GOP wants to rob the middle class by transfering wealth from the middle class to the wealthy like they've been doing for 25 years (with the exception of the Clinton years).

24. Remind everyone that McCain hired the same crew that spread lies about him in 2000
to spread lies about Obama. I think this could be a very effective attack, and might just send McCain over the edge . . .

25. Obama camp probably doesn't read our stuff
Edited on Sun Oct-05-08 09:32 PM by Juche
Which is too bad as places like this and KOS have some really smart political junkies. I am especially impressed by KOS's front page and all the info they give.

this is what I'd say:

"John, we are facing some of the most serious problems in our countries history. Housing, healthcare, the economy, infrastructure, energy and foreign policy are all facing turmoil at once. You have supported policies that helped create alot of these problems this whole time and in order to distract the public from that fact you are launching lies and smears as vicious as what was done to you in 2000 in the hopes that you can distract the public until november 4th. If that is the path you want to take, have at it, my team is happy to debunk and disprove your lies and the public are free to come to my website and see the rebuttals. But I am going to keep talking about the serious issues facing this country and what we need to do to fix them."

The Obama camp is smarter than I thought. I have had many times when I read something here or on KOS and thought 'damn, why isn't the Obama camp using this info'. Good for them.

I do remember a few weeks ago reading on KOS about a blurb McCain said about wanting to provide the kind of leadership & deregulation to healthcare he gave to banking. Obama & Biden were making that same statement later that day.
