I've noticed that the media has been pushing the electoral tie scenario lately.
In fact, they just did so on the NBC Nightly News (I know, Chuck Todd. :-()

I just can't see this happening. Maybe it's just me.

5. Each State Delegation in the House of Representatives gets a single vote
per the twelfth amendment. So long as somebody gets a majority in that vote (26 votes or more), they become president.

Right now, the Democrats hold a majority in 27 state delegations. It would, however, be the 111th Congress that votes, not the 110th.

3. I guess the Rove/Diebold/Haliburton people have leaked the election results already.
I didn't think they'd do it this early, but maybe this time they feel that they better start "preparing" the American populace for the result further ahead of time. They learned their lesson in 2000 and 2004.

4. Well, now that the race is no longer too close to call via the polls
they had to come up with another kind of tie to keep us tuning in.

6. They're desperate to make this seem like an even horse race
They don't care about reporting the objective truth and their version of being objective is to give equal time to both sides, even if one side is completely crazy. They need the ratings for it.

Hence why it's so hard to keep up on this election sometimes because you have to fight through the media bullshit every single time.

7. Me neither
Right now Obama seems to be so far ahead that, absent MASSIVE (and I do mean MASSIVE) voter fraud in all 50 states, a MAJOR stumble by the Obama campaign ,or the American public suddenly being severely dumbed down (brainwashing away the last 8 years would work too) during the next 30 days, I don't see how Obama won't at least win by a comfortable margin. It may not end up being a landslide like some people are predicting but I can't imagine it being a squeaker either. There is no way IMHO that Obama vs. McCain will be remotely close as Bush vs. Gore and THAT situation wasn't even an electoral tie scenario, so.......?

My guess is that nothing would make the good folks at FOX, CNN, or MSNBC cream their pants more than an electoral tie scenario? They probably don't want to have to call the election early.

9. The McCain campaign seems to think that a tie is almost the best they can do.
That is why they sent resources to Maine last week and Nebraska this week. Those two states are the only ones which split their electoral votes. In each, electoral votes are allocated by Congressional district. McCain is trying to win one district in Maine and avoid losing one in Nebraska. He is targeting 271 electoral votes. Obama is targeting 371. But the electoral map this year does make a tie possible and the media would love it.
