The Secondary Benefit To Bringing Up Keating 5 |
|
The strategy is aimed at the voters and keeping the economy front and center. But the Keating 5 issue is a very personal one for McSame. It points to one of the biggest missteps of his career. It was a shameful time for McSame, the kind that every time you think about it as the years pass you wince, and given his petulant personality, one could guess that the shame/stigma still pricks. Now he is having to be faced with one of his worst moments over and over again. It puts him on the defensive and I doubt if he will be able to look Obama in the face Tuesday, because Obama has effectively called him out. Makes me think of that play 'Your arms too short to box with God'.
As for Obama, kudos to him for keeping his powder dry. Back a bit, we were all yelling for him to reference the Keating 5. He waited until he saw the whites of their eyes. They knew this moment was coming and was ready for it. You don't do a 13 minute documentary over a weekend.

3. The timing before the upcoming debate is perfect. |
|
I hope Obama mentions Keating during the debate. A meltdown on stage would be good.
