Republican Clears Obama On Ayers!(Audio)

Uh-oh...Ayers won't work anymore (There goes the kitchen sink, I guess here comes the table)...Some republicans from Chicago are saying what most of us knew all along. Bill Ayers was a commonly acceptable figure in Chicago by everyone--Democrats, Independents, and even Republicans. Are they all America hating, terrorist loving traitors to America?!

"It was never a concern by any of us in the Chicago school reform movement that he had led a fugitive life years earlier," said former Illinois state Republican Rep. Diana Nelson, who worked with both Obama and Ayers over the years. "It's ridiculous. There is no reason at all to smear Barack Obama with this association. It's nonsensical, and it just makes me crazy. It's so silly."

.............

Second, there were people of all political persuasions working on this effort with this "terrorist" Ayers and who saw him as acceptable and Obama was no closer than any of the others.

...no one on the board or on the Annenberg Challenge staff remembers Obama being any closer to Ayers than to any other member of the board. The Annenberg board also included several civic, business and education leaders, many of them Republicans...

In fact one person close to the issue states:

"I don't remember ever hearing anyone raise concerns or questions or concerns about background," says Anne Hallett, who has worked closely with Ayers on the Annenberg Challenge grant and with Obama on education and other community and legislative matters. "And that included everybody I was engaged with," including prominent Republicans, and corporate and civic leaders in Chicago, Hallett adds.

Oh, really?!

So not only was Obama working on a Republican funded initiative, but prominent Republicans were involved on the board with Ayers. Do they all hate America so much that they are "palling" around with terrorist? He had been in their midst for years, why did not the republican's run him out of town.

Obama was new to Chicago. He hadn't been elected to anything. He really did even know where the bodies where truly buried in Chicago (evidenced by the thumping he received when he ran for the state senate). He just wanted to serve the community and do good work. However, Ayers had been there for years, building a reputation that was so mainstream that a life long Republican, who was a former Ambassador appointed by Nixon and Regan, allowed the release of $50 Million to let him, prominent Republicans, corporate, civic leaders, and a Harvard trained community organizer form a board to oversee the disbursement of these funds related to school reform.

implying barrack campaign derelict

unless you are referring to the fact that all kinds of people worked on these boards and obama not close to ayers, and ayers accepted in community.

cause that is already out

11. You answered your own question
Point #2 is what I meant. And I don't care if it was "released" already. I watch the news carefully and if the first time I'm hearing that Obama worked with Ayers on Republican funded work is on an internet message board, then I'm surprised by the Obama team strategy.

17. we were told he worked on charitable boards. who do you think is working on these boards
in any given community.

it isnt the issue you are making it. most people recognize that it will be the community leaders, repug and dems both on these boards, not a political issue.... a charitable issue.

you learned something today

good for you

19. Nope. Most people don't realize it was Republican-funded
Gosh, some you guys are Obama worshippers. You can't say anything remotely critical here. If I say that I love 99.9% of the things Obama's doing, people will call me a hater because of that 0.1%. What kinds of threads would you like to see besides a list of all the things about Obama that I love and a list of the polls that are showing good results?

22. because you really are criticizing something that is your own deficiency
or lack of knowledge and really the significant part isnt who gave that money. the significance is it is a charitable org with all kinds of people on hte board to do good. end of story

you are looking for a fight that isnt there

23. But I'm not even fighting
When I give my students critical feedback on their essays, I'm not fighting them. I'm saying, "Good job. Here's what I thought could have been better." You're seeing a fight that isn't there.

sounds like fightin words to me, lol.

i didnt pay attention to this whole issue during the primary. was on the board a lot. didnt go into a single thread. when it was brought up now i did research to find out who the man was, what the issue was with him and the connection to obama.

i gathered and concluded.

I'll always fight anyone I think is close-minded because I don't think it will do our side any good to be close-minded or have close-minded supporters. I thought you meant fighting the Obama team in your other message.

30. I wasn't referring to you specifically
I never mentioned your name. There are actually many here who are close-minded and won't listen to anything that's unpleasant about Obama. It may be just a minority here but it reminds me a lot of how those on the right think. I was replying to you only because you were replying to me. If you think there's no room for anything critical about Obama here, then my comments do apply to you. If you think there is room, then they don't.

10. Perhaps because addressing it directly is usually not a smart strategy
it puts Obama on the defensive and let's McCain direct the conversation. Better that other people are pointing this out.

13. I think that has more to do with *how* you answer it
You can very easily turn an attack on you into an attack on them while invalidating the attack at the same time rather than just ignoring the attack and making it sound even. The public probably says "M has the keating 5, O has Ayers, I guess they're both typical corrupt politicians." Obama could invalidate the McCain attack easily. Why should he do it? What he says will get more attention that what any surrogate says. If someone implied that I was a terrorist, I'd defend my honor myself.

21. Some of this came out yesterday on NPR
So, have McCain/Palin have already issued a follow-up statement condemning their fellow Republicans in Chicago then for being "associated" with Ayers too? If not, being the respectable and principled people we all know them to be :puke: I expect that such a statement will soon be forthcoming (and that they will immediately incorporate it into all subsequent rallies and stump speeches condemning Obama's "association" with Ayers.

14. That makes this tantamount to the "he went to the million man march" smear as well.
The right is reaching, and we throw that phrase around quite a bit but they are really reaching at this point.

28. Just hate radio.
It usually gets tucked in to a list of pejoratives, like this:

The Obamas hate America - 'A downright mean country' his wife said, friendly with Bill Ayers, friends with Farrakhan, he attended the million man march even though he knew Farrakhan was an anti-Semite.

You get the idea. You can hear it daily on the AM dial daily. Hannity tries to say it at least a few times a day, as well as the Salem media crew and Mark Levine.
