New Poll: NEVADA 50-43 for OBAMA
As U.S. Sen. Barack Obama and U.S. Sen. John McCain prepare for their second debate tonight, a new poll shows the Obama-Biden ticket has pulled ahead of the McCain-Palin ticket for the first time in the important battleground state of Nevada.

Of 600 likely voters surveyed statewide in the Reno Gazette-Journal/Channel 2 News poll, Obama led with 50 percent to McCain's 43 percent. Three percent of those surveyed are siding with another candidate and only 4 percent are undecided.

The poll was conducted by Maryland-based Research 2000 from Oct. 3 to Oct. 6. The margin of error is 4 percent. And, as with all polls, this one reflects the state of the race today and is not a prediction of who will win the state in November.

Since the start of the general election match up, polls have showed the two contenders locked in a neck-and-neck race. Only McCain has polled with a lead outside the margin of error.

Today's poll is the first public survey in which Obama has posted a lead outside of the margin of error. According to the numbers, he's held on to his lead with women voters in Nevada and, for the first time since the RGJ started polling, has taken the lead from McCain among independent voters.

The poll was in the field on the heels of the financial industry bailout debate and is the first conducted by the RGJ since U.S. Sen. Joe Biden and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin were added to the tickets.

1. They are moving fast all over the country.
All towards Obama, though, so it's easy to keep up with.

2. That looks amazing.
Haven't kept track of previous NV polls but am wondering when others will be out to show a similar trend.

3. America is deciding and they are going for Obama. These are tough times
and we need a calm, cool, and collected President, steady hand, to guide us through these tumultuous times. It is not McCain, n angry, grumpy and erratic man, no it is not McCain. America will elect Barack Obama as their 44th President.

4. Nevada's economy is one of the worst
Due in a large part to the fact that they depend on people having disposable income to spend on recreation there. The casinos are hurting, they're laying off employees and even in some cases are closing their doors. They have the highest foreclosure rate in the nation and a 7.1% unemployment rate that's predicted to keep climbing through 2009.

Yeah, I can see them being ready to vote for change.

5. I live in Nevada
In fact I live in Henderson,Nevada and our economy is all messed up. We have such a high foreclosure rate, people are getting layed off left and right. It's horrible. It still shocks me that ANYONE in this state would vote McYucky. Our state is hurting.

11. I hear you.
I have family in Reno. Nevada is getting banged up pretty badly in this whole economic disaster. The really scary part is it's going to get worse before it gets better.

Take heart in the fact that this poll implies many of your fellow Nevadians are beginning understand the root of the problem.

6. Saw a really long Obama ad last night.
This is Ohio.

I did not time it, but my quess was it was 90 seconds (which means it was probably more like 60.) It was just him looking at the lens talking in a conversational tone. The message: NOT the same old shit.
