Hardball in Nashville- all blue
Tweety can't find any Republicans in the pre debate crowd. I wish the rest of the state was as blue as our fair city.

1. What's up with that? I thought Nashville,
home of country music was as red as they come. Maybe Obama won them over by playing Brooks & Dunn at the convention. lol

2. Nashville has always been blue.
A lot of the rest of the state is red. Memphis is usually blue.

4. Nashville
Like most cities in the South, Nashville is heavily blue. But the urban centers in the South, other than the areas of heavy rural black populations, are the only blue areas there. Basically, if you in the South, outside a metro area, and talking to a local white person, you've got about a 99% chance you are speaking to a Republican.

5. Actually that is pretty much true of the country as a whole. . . .
The urban states on the coasts and in the upper midwest are blue.
The rural states in the deep south and the middle of the country trend red.

I've always felt like the divide is urban/rural, rather than geographical.

8. To some extent yes
But there are states like Iowa, Vermont, Oregon, etc that are both more white and more rural than states like Georgia or North Carolina but are far more Democratic. Rural white voters nationwide tend towards the Republicans, but the nationwide trend is skewed by how heavy the trend is in the South. The one thing balancing out the rural vote in the South is the heavy rural black population.

6. I'm that blue dot!
White, in a rural area, married with children, who should be in the repuke demographic, so go figure. I was out running errands today with my Obama t-shirt on, and got some interesting looks, lol.

I just love seeing my fellow Tennesseans out in force in Nashville today! :patriot: :toast:

7. Nashville is bright blue!
Yes, country music has been popular and conservative for a long time. The newer acts (and older ones i.e. Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, Merle, the Cashes) are pretty anti-GOP, there are the Music Row Democrats out here too. :)

Plus, lots of people moved out in the counties, and they are bright red, but Nashville, Memphis, Brownsville, and Hardeman County (mom's birthplace and black population), are always blue.

11. Well that's great to know! I know Nashville is a really beautiful
city because place I've see it often on Home Hunters on HGTV. :D I always thought it was a shame that such a beautiful place would be so conservative. Sometimes it's good to be wrong!

24. It is a nice place to be
football, music, and politics. :) It could be better as far as the education system goes, but it has come a long way since the 80s. (I moved from Memphis 29 years ago). Nashville is still growing as we speak.

:patriot: :hi:

23. Yep, it's been known as the "Athens of the South" forever....
...... because of all of the colleges and universities.

My master's thesis was on the Nashville Student sit-ins during the civil rights movement .... needless to say, this a very special night for me.

I am in Nashville and while TN is pretty red, as a little university town, Nashville itself is pretty blue. A friend of mine is at the debate tonight :bounce:!

I think this bodes well for the GOTV effort. I think all those new registrations will bear fruit in the form of Obama votes.

28. I've lived in Nashville all my life...
I'm so glad for the opportunity to show others that we are one of several counties in Tennesse that is staunchly democratic and has been for decades.

Tennessee has gotten a bad rap for too long. We're here and we've been fighting the good fight for a long time. We're trying to change our red state into a blue state one county at a time.

29. I'm A Transplant
Been here for almost 15 years now. I know there are plenty of Republican parties tonight. Steve Gill is doing something and there's some happening at Sam's, though I don't know if that's partisan or not. There will be Dem action at the Cannery / Mercy Lounge.

The outright lies in McCain's TV ads are shameful and Obama is right to use the word "dishonorable" in counter-attacks.

30. Obama's motorcade just left the hotel
Edited on Tue Oct-07-08 07:27 PM by politicasista
DD (Dear Dad) just called and said that there were some women hollering Obama's name as the motorcade pulled out of Lowe's/Vanderbilt Plaza Hotel. His office is right across from the back hotel parking garage, so he is waiting to get from there. :)
