Why the sudden shift in tone from McCain crowd really bothers and concerns me
I've been to an Obama event. Security is airtight. I'm always concerned for his saftey but I have rested a little better after attending an event.

I'm concerned about the people canvassing and our offices. There are people calling for violence at McCain rallies and I'm very scared what might happen if someone knocks on a crazy person's door. There are alot of nuts out there that just need a little push and it seems the McCain campaign is pushing their buttons. Hannity, Rush and the Crew aren't helping either. The demonization to the point of making the other political side an evil enemy might push someone mentally unbalanced to do something unthinkable. I hope we get through this election without anything happening other than yard sign thefts.

2. Yeah, but we've been screwed into a corner for eight years
and somehow have managed not to advocate violence against our opponents as an acceptable form of action.

14. Of course.
It's one more reason to choose the left.

18. The far left can be violent as well. I've seen some pretty ugly posts on DU...
but it is true that the righties are far worse.

3. This is also my biggest concern right now... what's happening is political intimidation at its worst
Edited on Wed Oct-08-08 07:42 PM by RollWithIt
I can't recall ever talking to a Democrat who said we should "kill him" or "behead him" or screamed the kind of hatred that is being seen at these rallies. Yes, we call them idiots. Yes, we say some of them should be arrested. But kill them? Beheadings? No. It's just wrong what these people are being encouraged to do. Palin even went so far as to say last night, at a debate event, that she was happy to be with "Real Americans." That kind of talk is flat out dangerous. The last time that kind of language has been used in such a terrible manner would be Joe McCarthy's red scare during the 1950s.

4. People don't canvass alone, do they?
I think that is a legitimate concern.

5. I predict an increase in violence from the more mentally unstable gop supporters
between now and the election. I mean come on, a black man in the White House? Some of these people are close to meltdown stage now at the very thought.

6. I share your concerns.
Violence and even murder have already happened when outraged Kool-Aid drinkers have damaged Democratic headquarters and murdered the head of the Arkansas Democratic Party. And with Palin calling Obama a traitor and others calling all Democrats traitors, I fear more violence is bound to happen.

I hate to go all Godwin's law here, but this scenario is one we have seen before. And if you were to translate "Country First" into German, what would you have?

12. They are quite eager to blame the housing crisis on blacks and hispanics
Most foreclosures are happening to white people. Facts aren't something they generally care about though.

21. they blame everything on the "Democrats"..
doesn't matter who that Democrat is. Some of them might have some extra juice over Obama, but I just can't be afraid of future events. It has a paralyzing effect, and this life is the only one I have. Fear sucks.

10. If Barack is brave enough, I am brave enough.
They would love for us to be afraid. Do not let what they do and say stop you from doing what's right. The vast majority of them are all bark, no bite. I would rather die doing what's right, than sit safely in my house doing nothing.

11. Exactly, Sir
McCain and Palin know perfectly well they are inflaming a mass of mentally unstable, violently inclined, racist bigots: they know exactly what and who their 'base' is, and what reactions can be expected to emerge from it, given the right prodding, which they have undertaken to supply from their podiums.

It seems very likely to me that, before the election arrives, McCain and Palin will succeed in getting one or two volunteer workers for Sen. Obama shot.

Whatever the law might say, if, or rather when, this occurs, the responsibility will rest on moral failures at the top of the Republican ticket.

15. So you're really concerned about the conservative world view - a universe of...
super heroes and evil doers, where the only shades of gray are conveniently covered by gallons of grecian formula.

Welcome to the American Conservative Universe!

17. I welcome and want a landslide
however, its going to lead to frustrated unbalanced people doing bad things. We have to fight this fight however, the FBI and Southern Poverty Law Center are going to be very busy after this election.

but the Republican party.
God forbid, however, that anything happens.
