Clinton's Office Just Issues Official Statement on his Heart Attack
They didn't call it a heart attack (it was however) and Clinton is scheduled for quadruple heart bypass surgery "as early as tomorrow".

Clinton's office stressed that the surgery may not be tomorrow, but that is all they know presently after talking with Bill and his physicians.

They said Hilary will continue her schedule today, and then take off tomorrow until further notice.

2. Thanks for the update.
I pray he has a successful surgery and makes a good recovery.

It occurs to me that he has been on a book tour, and for all that he is energized by crowds, I'm sure there's a certain amount of stress that goes with it all.

Gute Besserung!

I was wondering that myself.
Do tell us how it is divined that it was in fact a heart attack?

(This seems like the same type deal Letterman had, and he never had a heart attack, just chest pains and a blockage that had to be fixed.)

7. Indeed there are "walking" heart attacks
My dad had one. You feel chest pain. You go to the doctor. They run a blood test to look for a certain chemical produced ONLY by heart attacks, and.... it could very well be one.

36. My father in law had a heart attack while vacationing in Spain
but didn't have his triple bypass surgury until he returned to the states. They stabilized him first of course and made sure he was okay to travel. Depends on the severity of the heart attack. He wanted to get back to his doctors. He's a surgeon himself, they're kind of picky and, well, let's just stick with picky. :)

17. well we don't know if it's accurate
and I doubt any washington DC insiders have very special detailed medical informaiton at this point.

As I said above, chest pains do not equal a heart attack. If somebody goes to a hospital with chest pains, it is quite normal for people to miscontrue it as a heart attack, but that is not necessariy the case.

I had an emergency angioplasty two years ago. I was having chest pains. I most definitely did NOT have a heart attack.

It's hardly a scientific or specific term is it?
What is the big deal? The guy may have some information that you don't. There's no reason to get all upset about that one statement.

23. Any upset you read in that post
was put there by you. I'm certainly not upset.

There actually IS a specific definition of heart attack. It is a myocardial infarction. It occurs when a complete blockage in a coronary artery cause a loss of bloodflow to some section of the heart muscle, thus causing tissue death from lack of oxygen.

There are other manifestations of coronary artery disease that cause chest pains but yet are NOT heart attacks. In my case, I had a partial blockage that caused chest pain and arrhythmia for brief occasions. They would last about a minute or two. At no time was any part of my heart muscle deprived of oxygen, and therefore I did not have a heart attack. But the blockage caused this angina which was a very lucky warning sign for me. For many people with my condition, the first warning sign is sudden death.

I'm simply asking for accuracy. As somebody who had a similar problem, I had many people mistakenly assume I had a heart attack. There's nothing wrong with accurate.

10. Here's Full CNN Update -
Bill Clinton to undergo bypass surgery
Former president undergoing tests at New York hospital
From John King and Ed Henry
CNN Washington Bureau
=========================

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Former President Bill Clinton will undergo heart bypass surgery as early as Saturday, sources tell CNN.

Clinton was in New York-Presbyterian Hospital on Friday undergoing tests for chest discomfort.

A close friend of Clinton said the former president called him to say that his doctors had advised him that he needs bypass surgery.

The friend told CNN that Clinton's condition is serious and the former president had told him he required quadruple bypass.

Clinton, 58, has been in good health with no known history of heart problems.

A medical report in January of 2001 showed he had an above-normal cholesterol level and borderline high blood pressure.

He checked into the hospital Thursday, the sources said, complaining of chest discomfort and fatigue. He went home Thursday and returned to the hospital Friday, the sources said.

During his presidency, Clinton a reputation for eating fast food meals.

Since leaving office, Clinton has lost weight and he told talk show host Oprah Winfrey that he had gone on the South Beach diet.

16. Wire Update & Official Clinton Office Statement
Update - Bill Clinton to undergo bypass surgery
From John King and Ed Henry
CNN Washington Bureau
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/09/03/clinton.tests/index.html

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Former President Bill Clinton will undergo heart bypass surgery as early as Saturday. Clinton was in New York-Presbyterian Hospital on Friday undergoing tests for chest discomfort. Clinton's office issued the following statement:

"Former President Bill Clinton is being admitted to New York-Presbyterian Hospital today and is scheduled to have bypass surgery.

"The former president went to Northern Westchester Hospital yesterday afternoon after experiencing mild chest pain and shortness of breath. Initial testing was normal and he spent the night at home in nearby Chappaqua, New York. After undergoing additional testing this morning at Westchester Medical Center, doctors advised he should undergo bypass surgery.

"Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and (daughter) Chelsea Clinton will be with the president in New York City." A close friend of Clinton said the former president called him to say that his doctors had advised him that he needs bypass surgery. The friend told CNN that Clinton's condition is serious and the former president had told him he might have a quadruple bypass. No known history of heart trouble

Clinton, 58, has been in good health with no known history of heart problems. A medical report in January of 2001 showed he had an above-normal cholesterol level and borderline high blood pressure. During his presidency, Clinton had a reputation for eating fast-food meals.

Since leaving office, Clinton has lost weight and he told talk show host Oprah Winfrey that he had gone on the South Beach diet.
Clinton had been scheduled to tour the New York State Fair in Syracuse Friday afternoon with Sen. Clinton. In recent days, he has continued to maintain an active schedule. Last Sunday, Clinton delivered what was described as an energetic and forceful sermon at Manhattan's historic Riverside Church.

On Monday, Clinton was on the campaign trail in Pittsburgh, stumping for Rep. Joe Hoeffel, the Democratic U.S. Senate candidate running against incumbent Arlen Specter. (Special report: America Votes 2004, Pennsylvania's races) And on Wednesday, Clinton participated in a book signing in New Orleans. During that appearance, Clinton was asked about his weight loss after leaving office.

"I work out a lot and I went on the South Beach Diet for a while, that helped, but the combination -- I have a wonderful man that comes in two or three times a week and we work out," he said. "You know when you get older you really got to watch it. It gets harder. The older I get, the harder it is (to lose weight)."

30. Ha, don't you know it - Those Democrats Will Do Anything to Win!!
according to my GOP "friends".

=============

Here's a great email I just received from a colleague:

Email Rec'd - 09.03.04

With the news of Clinton's health situation today it reminded me of these facts, I will share.

You know despite Clinton's problems in Office he never had approval ratings as low as "King Faud Bush". Even at the height of the Monica problems his approval ratings were still in 60’s. For example on Feb 1, 1998, Clinton hit a 69% percent approval rating. That rating was better than Ronald Reagan's highest approval rating!

Upon leaving office, Clinton had one of the highest approval ratings for a retiring President in U.S. history. King Bush’s approval rating is in the 40’s, and this little blip up in the low 50’s will go back down after the RNC hate feast in NYC is a sad memory for the GOP.

The GOP fear game is not going to work. People still vote from their pocketbook, and Bush-Cheney will lose.

Look at the great Winston Churchill, he saved England and help us beat the Nazi's in World War II, then right after the end of WWII in July 1945, he is voted out of office as England's Prime Minister because of continued economic and infrastructure problems on his home-front.

Britain’s Prime Minister Tony Blair is getting ready to learn the same lesson when he gets voted out of office. When that happens, and it will according to the British press, there goes our only large ally in the Iraq/Middle East fiasco.

Let us also remember that King Bush must overcome 48 years of history to win re-election over Democrat John Kerry. Since 1956, none of the three presidents who trailed in a Gallup Poll after February of a re-election year won a second term. – JAL.

37. President Clinton Confirms Heart Attack on Phone to Larry King Live
Apology accepted from the DUers trashing me on my prior posts on this subject

=====================
President Clinton Confirms Heart Attack on Phone to Larry King Live
--------------------
CNN) -- Former President Bill Clinton's office announced Friday that he had experienced mild chest pain and would undergo a quadruple-bypass operation. During a panel discussion on CNN's "Larry King Live," Clinton called in to discuss his health.

KING: How are you feeling?

CLINTON: I feel great. And I've enjoyed this program. And Dr. Isom explained why we are going to delay this surgery for a couple of days. (Note: This is usually done due to excess heart muscle inflammation, which is typical of serious cases. The physician gets the inflammation under control, before proceeding to perform surgery)

But I feel really blessed, you know, because a lot of people who have a heart attack never get any advance warning

I've had some difficulty ever since I got out of the White House in getting my distance up in running. And I just had a feeling a couple of days ago I had to have it checked, when I finally got some tightness in my chest. And I hadn't done any exercise. That's the first time that ever happened to me, and we did this angiogram and found out I had blockage that was too significant to open and put a stent in. We had to do the whole surgery. So I'm trying to get my head in the game.

http://www.cnn.com/2004/HEALTH/09/03/clinton.lkl/

--------
UPDATE:

Hillary Clinton did a TV press conference around midnight, was very upbeat, politically correct, said everything is fine, for everybody to have a great weekend and not worry, even threw in a political plug for Universal Health care coverage so all in America could have the same fine care like her husband was receiving (pleaseeee).

However, she did say that Pres. Clinton was having chest pains, fatigue, and shortness of breathing before he finally when in to see if something was wrong (which are classic Heart Attack symptomalogy in men his age with his high stress lifestyle).

NOTE: I am getting this information second hand, but very reliable.>>

A close friend of the Clinton's at the hospital confidentially said his situation was serious but under control and guarded when Hillary did her press conference.

They were monitor the news stations in his room and saw the Larry King program talking about him so Clinton called in to let everyone know he was fine and "put a good face on".

The friend said President Clinton was really bummed out about this happening since he had so much he wanted to accomplish for the Kerry-Edwards ticket and other Democratic races in November (which this whole issue goes back the 2000 Gore-DNC debacle). He said Clinton ask the doctors several times if there was any way to put the operation off for a couple of months and the doctors said forget it, he was lucky to be alive as it was.
