Okay, I was always going to vote for the democratic candidate and I chose Obama as my candidate back in February, but the talking heads keep saying, "But can 'regular' people relate to him? Is he one of us?" (pause for teeth gnashing here).

I for one am feeling like I can relate more to Obama than any other candidate I can remember in my 37 years of voting. First there was the car he drives -- a Ford Escape hybrid. "Cool!" I thought when I heard this, "that's what WE drive, too!" Then there was Michelle's speech at the convention when she described the sloooow drive home from the hospital with their newborn. Who doesn't remember the same slow drive in their own experience? Then this afternoon, I was watching Obama's appearance on the Letterman show and he talked about the trip to the Chicago Field museum when he was ten and how the shrunken heads made the biggest impression on him. Well, my fifth grade class went on a field trip there way back when, and I, too, remember the shrunken heads as the most awesome thing I saw there that day.

I think anyone who takes the time to see and hear Obama, no matter what age, gender, or race, is able to relate to him because of these little commonalities. Anyone else feeling this way, too?

1. Yep - I very much identify with both Barack and Michelle...
They're deep thinkers and visionaries, and still very much down to earth ~ I've longed for a president like that.

2. The Obamas are the ONLY candidates I've ever remotely identified with.
I never identified with the Clintons, nor with the Kerrys, and gawd knows, not with the Reagans and Bushes x( nor with any of their respective VPs.

The Obamas -- wow. I can see hanging out with Michelle in my book group and sipping wine. I was born in the 60s, too. My kids are just a year older than her kids. Michelle and Barack both seem like they have a kick-ass sense of humor -- a HUGE requirement for a friend. Yeah, I know, it's all fantasy, but, wow. I just really dig those two. :D

3. Same here! I'm a middle aged white lady...
from the RURAL SOUTH and I'm identifying with him in a big way. I'm a lifetime Democrat, raised by Democrats, and I have NEVER felt this much excitement and enthusiasm about OUR candidate.

I am beside myself with optimism!

4. So do I!
"Boogie Down Barry" loves 70s disco, and so do I! :bounce:

(Think back to the DNC "soundtrack!")
