I'm SOOO EXCITED! I've seen 4 McCain Ad's in the past 2 hours!!
I don't normally watch the networks, but I wanted to check out SNL.. so I spent a bit of time on the "regular channels". I was surprised to see 4 McCain ads in the span of about 2 hours.

Why is this important you might ask? Well, frankly in the History of presidential elections, I don't recall either party ever running ads in my state (except cable). My state has always been so far Red, that there was no need. We were such a "safe" state that dems didn't waste the money, and republicans knew they'd get us anyway.

So what changed? BARACK OBAMA & HIS "DAMN" 50 STATE STRATEGY.

See, I live in Omaha, NEBRASKA. Barack showed up here about a month ago and has now opened 2 field offices in town... with 15 paid staffers, and hundreds of volunteers. He's been running ads, knocking on doors.. and doing everything possible for ONE stupid Electoral Vote.

Well, actually - now it appears as though McCain doesn't think that ONE Electoral Vote is so stupid. He's worried that he might be known as the presidential candidate who caused good 'ole Nebraska to go part blue.

Congratulations Obama... you have succeeded in getting McCain to spend a portion of his very prized & limited campaign money to defend the state of NEBRASKA. He shouldn't even have to think about NE to carry our state. But this year he's in for a big fight to keep one of the reddest states in the country red.

Even if Obama doesn't win that 1 EV.. he's won something else: The mental fight. This makes it just that much harder for McCain to be able to fight elsewhere.

Just imagine how we'd be feeling right now if Obama had to spend time & resources to defend California... we'd know how screwed we were. Ahh.. it's so nice to have that feeling be on the other guys foot for once.

I'll watch McCain ads all day long from now until 11/04.. because:

A) I find them amusing in their pathetic little way
B) Every ad he's running here is one less he's running in OH, FL & VA
C) I kinda like the new-found attention. We NEVER get political ads here.. we've never mattered before!
D) I have a sneaking suspicion that in SPITE of McCain's new NE ad strategy.. Omaha is still going to go for Obama. If McCain actually fights for it and STILL loses.. it makes the victory even that much more sweet!

So, in light of that.. i'm really looking forward to seeing the next McCain ad!

1. Here in San Diego, CA I've seen Obama's latest ad about 6 times in the last 2 days.
I always smile when it comes on.

It's the one that says McCain's plan will tax health care, give tax breaks to rich corporations and CEOs, affect 101 million Americans negatively, and then tells people to read Obama's health care plan on BarackObama.COM.

24. Uh... where did I say that?
The ads appeared on national primetime programs, so they were likely national ads.

You really need better message board comprehension.

23. Why is Obama advertising in California?
The only explanation I can think of is that San Diego has a lot of military personnel who might be registered to vote elsewhere. Even if that's so, it seems like a dubious strategy.

26. Two items: national, not local ad markets, and...
Obama understands that this is a different world and a different election.
Plenty of us in blue states are working the phones to influence other states.
Technology and mobility has blurred the borders.
And Obama plays a 50 state strategy, not just for the electoral votes but I think for holistic reasons.

He thinks outside of the box, I can understand his airing ads across the nation, since he's well funded and we are really all involved.

31. I agree.. and I think this helps with downticket voters too..
The more Dems you get out there.. even in states that normally go red - the more likely you are to get a dem elected further down.

I'm glad he's putting his millions & millions to use for the whole Dem party. How utterly un-selfish. ;)

If Obama can put those 5 in play, it would be hugh, I'm series!

Omaha is worth one vote. Obama is opening a third office in a few days.

Obama opening third campaign office in Omaha

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is opening third campaign office in Omaha.

It's the latest move by the Obama campaign to extend its reach in Omaha.

Campaign officials today said the new office will be located at 144th Street and West Center Road.

Obama already has offices in central Omaha and north Omaha.

"We want to make sure we're taking the (Obama) message throughout the whole 2nd Congressional District," said Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey.

12. Steve.. i hadn't heard about the 3rd office.. That's AWESOME!
And closer to my neck of the woods.. out west in the 'burbs. And, I think it's where he needs to be most.. because the western part of the city is much more "McCain Friendly" (ie white). ;)

What do you think Obama's odds are, realistically? Have you seen any recent polls? Also.. how is Esch doing - does he have a shot against Terry this year? I can't find anyone who seems to know where the 2 are at (O & Esch).

Democratic group pouring money into Esch campaign
BY ROBYNN TYSVER

The heat was turned up today in the 2nd Congressional District race between Republican Rep. Lee Terry and Democrat Jim Esch. A national Democratic committee began pouring money into the race in an effort to defeat Terry.

The $435,000 invested in advertising by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee means they believe Esch has a chance of scoring an upset over Terry, a five-term incumbent in a red state.

The question now is whether the GOP will invest in the race and put it squarely in the national spotlight.

Terry said he’s not planning on getting much help from the DCCC’s Republican counterpart in Washington. He said he would fight any negative attacks directed at him by the national Democrats.

9. Nope.. NE & ME are the 2 states that are NOT winner take all
The whole state of NE will go to McCain.. way to many old white farmers in the western part of the state for Obama to get the whole thing.

But, Omaha has been trending much more liberal in the past 8 years.. and nearly all of the 10% of the states african american population is in Omaha.

Obama could win the 2nd congressional distrcit (Omaha), and get 1 electoral vote for that. McCain will still win districts 1 & 3 (white & rural & very republican).. and whoever wins the majority of the state gets the other 2 votes. So, Obama has a shot at 1...

For McCain at this point I think it's about ego. Losing OH or FL.. well they were always close. Lose part of NE.. it's like getting your teeth kicked in. If you can't hold NE as a republican.. you shouldn't be in the race. ;)

I was born in '77... so this state has been Husker Blood Red for all of my lifetime.. but I have heard stories about the good ole days. :) My dad was a railroader... worked for Rail Car Nebraska back in the early 80's... and UP here and there.

20. more like 40's, 50's & 60's

We are down to less than 3% statewide in unions. Omaha lost 6 packing houses, the railroads, Hinky Dinky, Safeway, Swanson (invented the TV dinner) Foods, etc... It goes on and on. And once large companies like Quest, Lucent, etc.. all downsized.

That one vote could make a huge difference if the Obama only manages to pick up Nevada, NH, and NM from teh Bush states. It a good insurance policy.

19. I have seen three brand new Obama ads today
all of them were excellent. They are all positive ads one where he just talks about his life, the others are about real issues. Then you have the McCain ads they are nothing but negative crap with a woman's voice that is even more irritating than Mooselini's telling use to be scared of Obama.
