Salon Blows the Lid Off Palin's Radical Alaska Connections!
Edited on Fri Oct-10-08 12:53 AM by Truth2Tell
Max Blumenthal and David Neiwert have just posted a new expose of Sara Palin's ties to the Kookjob Alaska Independence Party. This is not about Todd folks. This is about Sara. Salon has the goods - it's a long and juicy piece. Worth every minute. Read it and weep Freepers. Who's the terrorist now?

From: Salon

Meet Sara Palin's radical right-wing pals

Oct. 10, 2008 PALMER, Alaska — | On the afternoon of Sept. 24 in downtown Palmer, Alaska, as the sun began to sink behind the snowcapped mountains that flank the picturesque Mat-Su Valley, 51-year-old Mark Chryson sat for an hour on a park bench, reveling in tales of his days as chairman of the Alaska Independence Party. The stocky, gray-haired computer technician waxed nostalgic about quixotic battles to eliminate taxes, support the “traditional family” and secede from the United States.

So long as Alaska remained under the boot of the federal government, said Chryson, the AIP had to stand on guard to stymie a New World Order. He invited a Salon reporter to see a few items inside his pickup truck that were intended for his personal protection. “This here is my attack dog,” he said with a chuckle, handing the reporter an exuberant 8-pound papillon from his passenger seat. “Her name is Suzy.” Then he pulled a 9-millimeter Makarov PM pistol — once the standard-issue sidearm for Soviet cops — out of his glove compartment. “I’ve got enough weaponry to raise a small army in my basement,” he said, clutching the gun in his palm. “Then again, so do most Alaskans.” But Chryson added a message of reassurance to residents of that faraway place some Alaskans call “the 48.” “We want to go our separate ways,” he said, “but we are not going to kill you.”

Though Chryson belongs to a fringe political party, one that advocates the secession of Alaska from the Union, and that organizes with other like-minded secessionist movements from Canada to the Deep South, he is not without peculiar influence in state politics, especially the rise of Sarah Palin. An obscure figure outside of Alaska, Chryson has been a political fixture in the hometown of the Republican vice-presidential nominee for over a decade. During the 1990s, when Chryson directed the AIP, he and another radical right-winger, Steve Stoll, played a quiet but pivotal role in electing Palin as mayor of Wasilla and shaping her political agenda afterward. Both Stoll and Chryson not only contributed to Palin’s campaign financially, they played major behind-the-scenes roles in the Palin camp before, during and after her victory.

Palin backed Chryson as he successfully advanced a host of anti-tax, pro-gun initiatives, including one that altered the state Constitution’s language to better facilitate the formation of anti-government militias. She joined in their vendetta against several local officials they disliked, and listened to their advice about hiring. She attempted to name Stoll, a John Birch Society activist known in the Mat-Su Valley as “Black Helicopter Steve,” to an empty Wasilla City Council seat. “Every time I showed up her door was open,” said Chryson. “And that policy continued when she became governor.”

7. This site says Sarah WAS a member of AIP, and that
... well, here's a quick cut and paste:

She was an AIP member before she got the job as a mayor of a small town — that was a non-partisan job. But to get along and go along — she eventually joined the Republican Party, where she had all kinds of problems with their ethics, and well, I won’t go into that. She also had about an 80% approval rating, and is pretty well sympathetic to her former membership.“

I note this because from the Salon video with Mark Chryson he tells Salon that Sarah Palin was not a member.

I hope this blows up in her calculating, evil, cold-hearted face. What do we really know of the Palins? This sounds like a crazy question, but how can we be assured she's not a plant to cause harm to or embarrass our nation? How do we know anything about her or even what affects the Communists had on McCain during his POW years? We just don't know.

I don't raise these question lightly. Bad people project. They are placing Barack, his family and our nation in harms way by creating a great deal of hatred by inferring Obama is a terrorist; and some right-wing idiots have inferred Obama is a Manchurian-like sleeper cell! That is enough to make me wonder if they aren't projecting to divert attention from themselves.

This all sounds so wacky, but much of what we have originally thought as wacky these past 8 years have come to fruition.

I want answers, and I want them now!

12. This is a MUCH more relevant story than Ayers. Palin owes her political success to the AIP.
She has been doing the bidding of this crazy secessionist group for YEARS. Why isn't this story being covered by the MSM?

16. Nice try, and I saw Max on Rachel Maddow today too
and he's blown this subject in many ways, as to render the articles nearly useless..

I know because Lynette and Dexter Clark, are my sister and Brother in Law. and he even misspelled that name as well..

On TV he said that Chryson BURIED automatic weapons wrapped in plastic in his front yard in case the "Black Helicopters" came.. well, guess I should remind poor Max that when the ground FREEZES that you can't DIG UP a weapon even if you wanted to.

Too many stupid assumptions and wrong conclusions. I usually appreciate Salon, though I think they are a bit uppity at times, and detest Palin with the heat of a thousand suns going nova, but this writing is broken, can't have that when going up against LIARS, we need to have CLEAN reporting, concise, and Correct.

I give the guy a D for effort, and I know it's unfair, because I KNOW those people up there, having lived there for 12 years, and having Mined Gold with the Clarks, and met a bunch of the Seccessionists.

Most were decent folks, and MANY People in Alaska are Survivalist minded, so that's a wash as well.

I normally don't go off on articles, but this one is poorly done, and isn't useful, unless we want to be like the McCain people and believe whatever shit is thrown at the wall.

No put down of the OP intended, either.

Sorry.

18. Yeah, both of us have been around a while
it's not just some racist code you know, just like Gay used to mean happy and had nothing to do with being, well.. Gay :)

It's on the list now of NON-APPROVED words?

I was around when all the websites started, Media Horse was born there, and they were cool..

So they got money and it went to their heads, remember there are a lot of writers there, Max just blew it on this one, he wrote CARTER instead of CLARK for the actual CHAIRPERSONS?

That's REALLY bad reporting.
