I'm extremely curious what everyone thinks Obama will talk about in his 30 minute TV buy... |
|
...because right now the election is looking very, very good for him and very, VERY bad for the GOP. I would expect McCain to attempt this sorta thing as a last stand--another Hail Mary, if you will--but what do you think Obama feels is so important that he needs to tell nearly every TV-watcher in the country about it?
My guess is that he wants to reassure the people who WON'T vote for him to not be afraid of him, and that once in the White House, he'll work for everybody, not just his supporters. What do you guys think?

1. I Would Guess That's Part of the Plan |
|
It will build anticipation and generate all kins of speculation in the media and on the street. I'm sure he will be very calm and presidential.

2. I bet it's something of a fire-side type discussion. |
|
Who I am, here is where we are (economic hard times), this is where we can go, then reassure america, give some inspiration on our historical greatness, etc. I have no doubt it will be a very presidential-like appeal to the people.

If the press talks about it alot before the night it airs. I bet it will get high ratings just out of curiosity. Obama is nailing the coffin shut here.

4. He'll be the President we need |
|
I expect him to address us as the President we wish we had in such a time as this. He's going to reassure the country and lay out his New Deal. He will point the way forward by sharing his vision of how to get out of this mess and be better for it.

his stand on health care and taxes so that his words are not distorted or twisted by the msm or talking heads. That is just one of my guesses.

6. Whatever he needs to at that time |
|
Which is the brilliance of reserving the time now. If he needs to give a "race" speech, he will. If he needs to still be rebutting Ayers or Wright, he will.
My hope would be that he could actually treat it more as a "state of the union" speech and speak to us like grown-ups about what we face in the coming years.
Lets hope McCain keeps flailing around in the mud and muck, and I think the SOTU speech is all he will need at that time to seal the deal with voters.

7. I expect two things - first a biographical video and then a speech |
|
Maybe a 10 minute video followed by a 20 minute humdinger. That ought to do it.

9. It will be the anniversay of "Black Tuesday," Oct 29, 1929, as FogerRox has pointed out. |
|
The worst day of the stock market crash of 1929. Obama has taken out these half hour slots on all the networks for Oct. 29.

10. I'm thinking it will be a major re-cap of his campaign.. |
|
a sort of summing up of what he is proposing to bring this country back from the brink, with strong contrasts with what the Republican ticket is offering. It makes good sense, and especially this close to Election Day, to put the REAL need to focus on the ISSUES, rather than to viscerally respond to the fear being fed the public by McCain/Palin.

11. Fireside chat. And detailed economic plans. |
|
That's what I'm hoping for, at least.
Show Americans how he will lead them out of this mess and they will vote for him.

15. it would be great if he did pres chat with the people |
|
and calmed everyone down about the future with the economic crisis. If he sat and looked right at the camera and said with compassion in his eyes again I will work every day to fix this.
He has said it before that he wasn't into this for power but to really help the people. I think if he said it on national tv bypassing any negatives and just talking about programs he wants to do to help regular folks that would be best.
At that point I don't think he should compare himself with McCain, don't even talk about him. Talk about what he would do.
It would be all over the news that he talked for 1/2 hr without mentioning mccain or bush. I think that would make the biggest impact. Not say his name once! No failed bush policies, no stump speech...

IMO it would be great for Obama in the final week to bring together all the themes of his campaign, with more specific proposals than ever.

18. Whatever he says, I'd bet he doesn't even mention McCain |

or Palin. He'll speak as the presumptive winner of the election and start the transition process in people's minds, while reminding them that they still have to go to the polls a week later.
