The hatefest we're seeing now is a reaction.
It is a reaction to the very real possibility--and a very high likelihood--that a black dude named Barack Hussein Obama will take the Oath of Office for the Presidency of the United States next year.

It wasn't this bad until now because McCain's supporters didn't think Obama could win. But they're seeing the polls and the cold, stark reality is hitting them. They can't escape it.

1. Yeah - I just had this conversation with my mother
She thinks many of the rabid repugs would rather see the country go down the tubes than hand over the White House to Obama.

24. Then who eventually wins the "what is patriotism" argument

These people are either going to accept that this country is run in accordance with the Constitution or not.

And when they decide not, they are done being Americans.

2. Oh I agree, but it needs to stop...
To be sure, the Hate Talk Express is the most sure sign I've seen to date, even with all the polls, that we're going to win. Not only do we hope for it, but they're going nuts now that they realize they will lose.

But it needs to stop. These crazies inciting violence need to be arrested and locked up.

3. Exactly.
These people believe that they are Gods chosen people because they are white dammit! And being white they are Superior to some Barack Obama. Yet he's going to be President while they lose their asses a little more everyday. That's the anger you see.

4. It's a mix of that and genuine race baiting.
Edited on Fri Oct-10-08 02:50 PM by Essene
The Mccain camp is trying extremely hard to bait Obama and the democrats into crying about racism, which suits their ugly gameplan.

Mix that with some white heartland people sincerely freaking out, feeling threatened, etc... and we get what we see.

A lot of these people truly have convinced themselves that america is under siege from immigrants, minorities, socialists, atheists, etc.

"Liberal" is basically the Other people who support all that stuff.

5. I think it is more the "liberal" aspect than the race or name
When you are given a daily dose of outrage, either through talk radio, Fox, or the various Internet sites, your ire is directed at not-us. To attribute this to race is a mistake. I agree there are some that get upset about that but it is a very small group and the fat part of the Republican Party faithful are just upset that a Democrat will win after being told for over a decade how evil Democrats are.

What we are seeing is nothing more than a temper tantrum.

6. And there's a balance between letting it air out and letting it fester.
Edited on Fri Oct-10-08 02:53 PM by iiibbb
I have no idea what that balance is... but it sure would be nice if McCain started talking down to it. I have to believe he is/was an honorable man... just stuck in a bubble.

They say these candidates can really get out of touch because of the information bubbles that surround them.

7. I'm so sick of all this "patriotism"
What is it with all these crazy white people that think they are superior simply because they are white and superior to the rest of the world because they are "Americans"? I'm a white American and I don't feel superior because of my race or because I am an American. It's sickening and embarassing to see other human beings acting this way. The real irony for me is most of them claim to be such good "Christians" too. I am so sick of hearing how this is the greatest country in the world, too. It appears to me this country has produced a whole lotta ugly and stupid and that's certainly nothing to be proud of.

8. Morans never get whipped up without help. This is being engineered by McCain.
Hysteria is manufactured. It doesn't just spring up. What we're seeing is the result of a decades' worth of encouragement of hate groups. The Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors hate groups, reports an enormous increase in the number and activities of hate groups since 2000. They're encouraged by the hate radio, the hate talk on TV, the hate sites on the internet, and the fact that the FBI and other government agencies that used to keep an eye on them have been instructed to focus instead on the "terrorism" of immigration and Islam, rather than the home-grown terrorists that are our biggest threat.

9. The CORE of the Republican party, the glue that holds together all THOSE white people, is racism.
Edited on Fri Oct-10-08 04:13 PM by TexasObserver
The CORE of the Republican party, the glue that holds together all these various white people, is racism. There may be 25% of the Republican loyalists who are not racist, but it's not more than that. From the South to the Rust Belt, white racists flock to the GOP because it is the party of white racists.

It isn't economic policy that holds them together, or a common religious belief, or abortion, or fiscal responsibility. It is FEAR OF THE BLACK MAN.

10. McShame's rallies are starting to look like Klan rallies
It's only a matter of time before they start bringing out the nooses to one of these events. The secret service needs to be very cautious the next few weeks. These people don't care about the economy or reason in general they just blindly hate Obama for 2 reasons: he's a democrat and he's black.

Unfortunately they are not letting it all out now,i am surrounded by many very conservative people and i think they plan on fighting(legally) OBAMA every step of the way through his presidency. They are loud, mean, obnoxious and NOT going to go away defeated.Buckle up.Also middle eastern countries are salivating at testing him early.

25. Really.
Do tell. Talk is cheap, and losers bluster.

'They' are already defeated. 'They' will have no recourse through the courts, unless 'they' want to admit to election fraud themselves.

And if 'they' think that a Congress and Senate controlled and chaired by Democrats will even go out of their way to piss on a Republican, after the crap they've taken the last eight years, 'they' are in for a rude surprise.

And what middle eastern countries are going to 'test' Obama? One of the first things he'll do is open up a diplomatic dialogue with all players, not just those friendly to us.

19. I sent letters today to CNN and MSNBC
Edited on Fri Oct-10-08 04:44 PM by Phx_Dem
asking them to stop showing the angry mob rallies. It's past time for them to put McCain on notice and let him know that as long as he continues to incite anger, hate and potential violence against a sitting U.S. Senator, his rallies should cease to have airtime. Period.

If something happens to anyone because of the McCain-induced hatefest, John McCain and Sarah Palin will be held responsible and the cable shows that continued to broadcast their mob rallies after it was clear they were intentionally whipping the lunatic fringe into a frenzy, will also bear responsibility.

Enough is fucking enough. Their level of irresponsibility is astounding.

Here is the media contact list thatFrenchieCat posted the other day. Thanks again, Frenchie!
