STOP THE PRESSES - After days of watching in silence, McCain calms the crowd at his Minnesota town meeting

Source: TIME - The Page

After days of watching in silence, McCain calms the crowd at his Minnesota town meeting.

“I want everyone to be respectful. And let’s make sure we are, because that’s the way politics is done in America.”

Tells one supporter who says he’s scared of an Obama presidency: “I have to tell you, he is a decent person, a person that you do not have to be scared as president of the United States.”

After a woman calls Obama “an Arab,” McCain interrupts to say: “No, ma’am. He is a decent family man, citizen.”

4. “No, ma’am. He is a decent family man, citizen.”
So you can't be a decent family man or citizen if you are Arab? Someone should also tell that brainiac lady that just because you come from that part of the world, it doesn't mean your Arab. The stupidity of these people is just too much to bear sometimes.

5. It's about damn time!
McCain needs to stop catering to the hate saturated freaks--the lower 20 percent of humanity.

I can't even IMAGINE Barack Obama laughing, snickering and saying nothing as personal insults
are hurled around his speeches--about McCain.

Only in these rabid Republican crowds.

These Limbaugh-listening hate-filled, small-minded wacknuts---want a leader who will validate
their darkness in their hearts.

I'm glad that after two weeks of inciting this nonsense, that McCain is finally standing
up and doing the right thing.

Let's see how long it lasts. I'm sure the rabid right wing nutjobs are on the phone to the
McCain campaign--furious that McCain "caved."

11. Agreed - the (ok, ONE) odd thing is
... there's a contingent there saying that these "hateful people" are clearly "Obama plants" designed to smear McCain:
"and i think it was a plant... and a trick by the Obama campaign to get McCain to say something that could be presented as hateful." (Comment 177)

... then there's the contingent there saying:
"I refuse to shut my mouth about that terrorist loving, Marxist, traitor dictator wannabe. HELL NO John, I’m NOT SHUTTING UP! This election isn’t about you but the future of the US." (Comment 101)

The people who have been rolling out the insults, in their questions to McCain--sound exactly
like the Freeper types!

We don't need to plant vitriolic hatemongers at McCain events, because they are all ready there!

10. Too bad--he got what was coming to him.
If he'd have cut off that crap when it first started, it wouldn't have this problem right now. He's been hoisted on his on petard, and he can hang there forever for all I care.

If this keeps up, I am truly afraid for the election and the next year. We could end up with a civil war on our hands.

And the proper response from McCain to the woman who said that Obama was an Arab would be something like:

"Actually he's not, ma'am. He's an American citizen just like you and me."

17. What was the voter turn out in the repub primaries?
McCain won the primary, fair and square. Little late for buyers remorse folks.

Of course, the fact of the matter was McCain was the repub's last best shot. You can't win w/out the moderate and independent vote and the repubs burned that bridge years ago. McCain was their one shot, and they flushed that down the toilet by running a divissive campaign.

21. ROFL, la la la la la, actual Freeper comments
"I just saw it. McCain sucked the air right out of the whole damn rally."

"I just saw it. McCain sucked the air right out of the whole damn rally." .....and because of it will LOSE the ENTIRE ELECTION for us. I don't even want nor will I probably watch the next debate or send any more money!!!!'

"I saw the whole thing. It was pitiful. 4 or 5 speakers BEGGED him to FIGHT in the 3rd debate.
3 or 4 times, he asked the crowd to tone it down. They’ve gotten to him."

"McCain...too stupid for his own good. It makes me SICK we have to support this man. Yeah, OK...he is honorable etc. but where is the fire in his belly to STOMP THE RATS???"

"And completely undercuts their brilliant ads these last few days. Man is this guy worthless."

“And completely undercuts their brilliant ads these last few days.” 'Exactly- what’s the point of spending 10 million dollars on ads saying Obama is a pal to terrorists and then say there’s nothing to be scared about him as president? Why shouldn’t we be scared of a guy with his finger on the nuclear button who is pals with terrorists? I think he’s giving up on winning and is worried about his “legacy” as a moderate.'

"If he doesn’t care about winning, why should we?"

"Why doesn’t he just drop out and endorse Obama?"

"THIS IS A HUGE CASE TO PROVE SENILITY"

   There's a lot more, I just can't take it because I'm drowning in mirth.

We now know none of his children carry his genes. The torture in Vietnam was truly diabolical!

I wonder how they keep his voice from getting high...

31. agreed - and there ARE some posters there saying just that thing
but they're in the minority, unfortunately. :(

Another recent comment:

McCain’s strongest argument has always been that he is the safe choice, the known quantity who can be trusted to lead the country, unlike that other guy with the weird name and dubious background. He has now utterly and completely undermined that argument. The swing voters who are doing a final gut-check on Obama just got told by McCain, of all people, that is safe to vote for Obama. In words that McCain can understand, “Whiskey tango foxtrot!”

I consider myself a connoisseur of fine freepdom, but this one takes the cake.

McCain has sown the wind with his base, and the only thing that's going to come up is whirlwind.

The inmates are not going to be deterred from taking over the asylum which is all that is going to remain of the Republican party.

Stick a fork in 'em.

43. Don't fall for this shit. His aides AND Palin are STILL peddling the hate.
McCain has decided to use Bush's tactic of not letting himself be soiled by the filth of the campaign. That was always Bush's thing... let everyone else make the nasty attacks, and your candidate seems above it all. Palin is still TODAY making nasty charges against Obama at fundraisers, and insists today that her supporters WANT her to go tougher on him. And.. McCain's people, on separate occasions just TODAY, have said that Obama 'should be ashamed of himself for attacking McCain's supporters that way, and insulting them.)

DO NOT BE FOOLED. I'm just blown away that some people here have actually posted that McCain is a decent and honorable guy. He's NOT. He's only doing this cuz his polling says to distance himself from this shit... but by all means, a DECENT person would instruct his VP candidate and employees to knock that shit off.

He's a tool who will do anything to get elected.

45. I think the questioner was planted - but not by Obama...
McCain orchestrated this for damage control, to look like a hero. It's too clumsy and dumb for Obama to have anything to do with it. That these folks think Obama planted this person would be comical if it wasn't so hateful.

As far as the "epitath" issue... it has a sweet, truthful irony to it that is lost on them:

These epithets are furthering McCain's epitaph... the more hatred spewed, the more fatal it is to the spewers.
