I'm talking about the many posts like this one at FR:
To: markomalley

I have never feared a man as much as I do Obama and the threat he poses to our Republic, our freedom and our liberty.

McCain is insane. Why speak kindly of your enemy? Take the fight to your enemy and destroy him!!

What I don't get is the part about the terrible threat Obama poses to "our Republic, our freedom and our liberty". I honestly have no idea what this threat is. All I can think of is:

* Is it that he wants to pull our troops out of Iraq?
* Is it his health care plan?
* Is it his tax cuts for the middle class?
* Is it his plan to reform the financial system?

I have read the policy material on Obama's web site, and I just don't see how anything there poses the kind of threat the Freepers fear so greatly. Sometimes I wish we coulod cross-post somehow so I could ask this "ProtectOurFreedom" guy directly.

Is it possible that their fear is based entirely on false information spread by Fox Noise and the radio gasbags? Were they frightened by a lying e-mail forwarded to them by a family member? They speak so intensely of the total destruction of the country the day after an Obama inauguration that I feel like it must be based on something, even if it's totally wrong. Exactly what is it that they think he's going to do?

4. It's what he doesn't say.
He doesn't say he's a socialist.

He doesn't say he's a terrorist.

He doesn't say he's going to outlaw firearms.

He doesn't say he's going to nationalize health care, oil, and industry.

He doesn't say he's going to appease enemies.

He doesn't say any of those things... and that's why he's DANGEROUS!!!

5. It's because he's black.
They're denying their own bigotry by convincing themselves that he's got radical terrorist associations.

8. He's a Democrat
They'd say the same thing about Hillary or Edwards or Biden. They're just insane. Obama's name and skin color certainly don't do him any favors with them, of course.

9. The thought of a Black President
shatters the last reason that they feel superior to him and every other black person - their own white hickness. It blows the last basis for their belief system to atoms.

12. They don't read, man. It's because his skin is brown.
That's how and why they can kill Iraqis and Vietnamese and issue death threats to Hispanics. It's the skin. They hate as a general rule and the skin gives them an "other" to hate. Something they can identify. I recommend mandatory guided psychedelic therapy.

18. yup
Race is not a major component, go back to 2004 and replace the name with Kerry, 2000 Gore. They are just awful hate filled people, and the sad part is, the Religious Fundies seem to be the core.

17. First guess: The color of his skin.
If he were white instead of biracial, while they would still try to demonize him, but I don't think it would be quite as bad as it is.

The funny name, the dark skin, take your pick. They would have fit in quite well in Berlin, circa 1940.

22. Some of them honestly believe he's a Muslim
I've got a couple of Fundie/Freeper relatives who just love to send me all this email shit about Obama. The "he's a muslim" line seems to be the one that scares them the most. The other is the "Obama is going to raise my taxes" or "he'll turn us into socialists". No you dumb bunch of shits-that's what the Bush administration is doing with the bank bailouts. Anywho--that's my totally random, unscientific poll.
