How to argue with a Republican bigot.
Edited on Sat Oct-11-08 01:50 AM by mhatrw
So it seems that, to Republican bigots, the three most important issues facing the United States today are ACORN, what Bill Ayers did 40 years ago, and Barack Obama's middle name.

I was arguing with just such a racist Faux Noise viewer when he brought up http://www.nypost.com/seven/10102008/news/politics/1_voter__72_registrations_132965.htm">this article that he contended proved beyond a reasonable doubt that dastardly, villainous ACORN is singlehandedly throwing the election to Obama (after singlehandedly causing the Bush/Paulson financial crisis, of course).

Suddenly, the word of one lone black inner city denizen was gold to my racist opponent. He had found his newest Obama skewering hero, giving him just the excuse he needed to hate Obama enough to vote for four more years of unremitting Republican disaster! I was supposed to be aghast that ACORN, which has admittedly committed heinous right wing crimes ranging from trying to find poor people housing to trying to register poor people to vote, was obviously guilty of bribing a poor honest whistleblower with nearly four packs of cancer causing cigarettes one by one in order to entice him to sign up to vote 72 times -- in a diabolical quest to throw the election to Obama, at least among rejected duplicate voter registrations.

My reply was, "If he'll register to vote 72 times for a cigarette, what would it take for the New York Post to get him to make a false accusation?"

No, I didn't get any response.

4. Good response.
Not that it will do any good. But it's a good line of reasoning to use against anyone who actually cares about reasoning. :)

6. But
if someone cares about reasoning, there's a 99.9 percent chance they are a liberal.

7. My brother shared this one with me.
His wife's sister is big Republican activist, and she knows my brother and his wife are are big Obama supporters.

So his wife's sister forwarded them, along with all her many Republican friends, an email titled "In a Perfect World" with a photoshop image showing Obama shining Palin's shoes.

When my brother found this disgusting schlock in his inbox, he hit "reply all" and changed the title of the email to "Racism: It's Funny On So Many Levels."

8. If you want to win the argument, bring a baseball bat.
Otherwise, you're just wasting your time. Personally, I've given up trying to persuade the non-rational and the semi-intelligent.
