Why McCain can never be considered a "Maverick"
In the 2000 race the media had a love affair with McCain. He was seen as outspoken and direct, although we can argue about the image and the reality. He seemed ok to me, in comparison with other Republicans, not that I would have ever voted for him. But the media helped to solidify this image of the "straight talker" and "maverick." But he lost me totally back then when he caved to the far right about the Confederate Flag issue in South Carolina. He went into asshole category for me every since.

But he has pounded this "maverick" label to death. The biggest problem with selling that: his pick of Palin from the extreme far right wing. The whole idea of him being a maverick was that he would stand up to anyone, Repug or Dem with his supposed "straight talk." Of course this is an extreme joke now. The thing about McCain is that he is not as far right as the moronic crowds that are cheering him on now. But he sold his soul when he put her on the ticket. There is no shred left of this supposed Maverick. If he was such a shit disturber as he claims, he would have chosen a VP from the moderate to center, thus upholding his claim of taking on his own party, and trying to actually compete with Obama for swing moderates. At this point the extreme elements of Granddad's Old Party are leading him around by the nose, and Palin has more political leverage with these morons than he does. It is such a joke: he is bragging about being a "maverick" to the very demographic that is OUTRAGED by any challenge to their ideology, and he is at the same time caving in to their deepest desires by choosing Palin and now by holding these Klan rallies.

Maverick? That is the biggest joke of this campaign.

1. My Dad Had A 1970 Maverick With No Air (In) Florida
He traded it in for a 1972 Gran Torino (with) air...I liked it much better...

2. What's even more bogus is that the real family of Samuel Maverick...
(after whom the term is coined) are politically progressive Democrats and resent the comparison.

4. Well then you will like this...
Saw a clip on the Newshour last night of Biden in Missouri. He was repeating what Bob Casey, senator from PA said about McCain...

"You can't call yourself a maverick when all you've ever been is a sidekick."
