It is said economics have swung this campaign...
All the real lies, deceit, wars, deaths, deficits, gov't intervention in personal lives, spying, incompetence, cronyism, neglect and arrogance didn't matter enough to convince citizens to "throw the bums out". It took the dow to drop to make people aware. 20 years ago I hardly knew what the dow was, it was just for rich people that had money they could afford to risk and lose. I guess Americans can tolerate anything as long as their 401K is healthy.

1. As much as I'm glad it has swung the election, your larger point is a good one....
The slaughter of millions of Iraqis and thousands of American, British, Australian et all soldiers in a war of lies.....
The absolute shredding of the Constitution.....
Katrina, scandal after scandal, phantasmagorical deficits.....None of that was enough.

3. I don't think it's just the economy anyway.
I think McCain's choice of Palin has a lot to do with it. He's losing Republicans.

6. That was my tipping point
After 8 years of W - Palin was the last thing I wanted to represent conservatism.

5. Most people just don't care until something adversely affects THEM
personally! It's a sad but true description of the majority of Americans! Most people didn't see how all the crimes and disregard of the Constitution affected THEM. Ask anyone or everyone what they think about ID theft and they'll all tell you it a very bad thing, but they don't think it's a major problem, UNTIL you talk to someone who's had THEIRS stolen, and the nightmare they had to live through to clear it up!

The economic crash has affected EVERYONE in one way or another. House values plummeted and still are, jobs are in jeopardy, retirement accounts are rapidly disappearing, even the wealthy have seen the value of their portfolio diminish. Couple all that with the high gas prices, food prices, HC costs, and businesses closing everywhere you look, and you find a general population that has been scared out of their malaise.

7. I've been saying for years unless it hits them in the wallet
tangibly, they don't care about anything. Even tho we've spent billions on war, etc, they never "felt" it like they are with this economic meltdown. A few would complain about paying more at the pump but then they got conditioned to that. This meltdown is affecting everyones money. Yes, sad, but true. Now they are opening there eyes and see the dems as the best to handle this mess......

9. I think Obama would still have won without the crisis.
The Palin bounce already started to fade before.
