Here is the official story
Philadelphia, PA – October 8, 2008) Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, the nation’s most popular hockey mom, will join the winner of the Philadelphia Flyers regional search for the “Ultimate Hockey Mom” contest and drop the puck at the ceremonial opening face-off as the home team Flyers host the New York Rangers at the Wachovia Center on Saturday, October 11 at 7 p.m.
If your not a sports fan you may not be aware of the fact that Philly fans are the most aggressive and don't like outsiders coming around and screwing with their sports teams.
They booed Santa Claus after all.
Here is a recitation of some of their other famous 'boos'
Booing Santa Claus. Booing Donovan McNabb on draft day. Throwing batteries at J.D. Drew. Cheering a potentially career-threatening injury to Michael Irvin. The Flyers fan jumping into the penalty box to fight with Tie Domi. Booing Kobe Bryant, who grew up in Philadelphia, before, during, and after the 2002 All-Star Game. Mitch Williams, the closer for the Phillies who gave up the infamous three-run, World Series-winning homerun to Joe Carter in Game 6 of the 1993 World Series, receiving death threats from Phillies fans in the offseason.
This is a tradition in Philly.
Here is the Santa who got pummelled with snow balls
"I'm a Philadelphia fan, I knew what was what. I thought it was funny," he is quoted as saying.
And the Philly fans know that their booing reputation is on the line tonight

Default BOOOO Palin at Flyers game this Saturday!
More than half the country is counting on US to booooo this crazy bitch! We can't let them down. Plus, it might be even more fun than throwing snowballs at Santa.
The funny thing about this is that Palin doesn't seem to know much about hockey games. The fans come looking for a fight and are happy to see a few goals in between the fights.
In the meantime Obama has 4 rallies in Philly today - talk about surrounding the opposition!! Progress Plaza

A slip of the tongue is one thing, but a slip (or trip) at center ice? Could be worth some money to gamblers.
Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is scheduled to drop the ceremonial first puck Saturday night before the Philadelphia Flyers' home opener against the New York Rangers. And the online offshore betting site bodoglife.com is offering 10-1 odds (as of this posting) that she'll take a spill in the process, even though she most likely will be standing on a red carpet, as is customary for guests who are there to drop the puck.
That's not all.
It's even-money that Palin will get booed more than cheered when introduced, and -130 that she'll be greeted with more cheers. It's also even-money that she'll wear a Flyers sweater on to center ice, and -140 that she won't. But the biggest payoff, and this is no joke, are 1,000-1 odds that she'll drop the gloves with Flyers captain Mike Richards.
No word if he's a Democrat or Republican.
