I think it's good that McCain is calling for civility
Edited on Sat Oct-11-08 12:23 PM by Enrique
I know it's fake, he's doing it because the hate looks really bad on TV and it's hurting his chances. And I know that he's still running negative ads.

But I think it's good even so. First, I am happy to see that many people don't like the dirty stuff. Maybe America is pretty decent after all.

Also, I like seeing those haters in the audience look foolish. I liked hearing that old lady ask, dazed and confused, "he's not?" when McCain said Obama is not an Arab.

I like the idea of a whole bunch of haters out there feeling pissed and betrayed that McCain is not validating them anymore. I like the idea of the power people who like to promote and exploit hate feel they've been thwarted too.

Maybe McCain did a service by inciting these people. They've been lured out into exposing themselves and we now have a document of what the right wing is really all about.

edit: another important thing that's good about it is that I found it really scary that politicians would stand by while their audience behaved like that. That was something that could cause something very bad to happen, and I'm relieved that they're no longer doing it.

2. I agree. McCain just made me feel much better about America.
I am finding the same bitter, angry talk with it's weird delusional elements among the conservatives I know. Suddenly it was all out-loud. The McCain campaign (or at least Palin) unleashed the weirdness. The hatred went public. Now McCain disappoints the haters publicly and clearly. This is a significant American moment. The public rebuking of ignorance and hatred is always welcome. At any time and from any quarter.

I am grateful and relieved.

3. I feel some decent part of him couldn't take it anymore.
Glad he finally said something.

4. Calling for civility? Not from his running mate, he isn't!

Palin just accused Obama of wanting "unlimited abortion"! Is McCrazed still dispatching her to do his dirty work, or is he simply unable (or worse, not "authorized") to "supervise" her?
