The crowd very obviously is "booing" Mr. C. Montgomery Burns, Springfield's local evil multi-millionaire and Homer Simpson's employer.

Mr. Waylan Smithers, Mr. Burns' personal assistant claims that the crowd is not booing Mr. Burns, but actually cheering Mr. Burns by saying "boo-urns, boo-urns."

Mr. Burns then takes it upon himself to figure out which is the accurate sentiment in the auditorium. When he asks the crowd the question, they promptly throw their concession-stand treats at him.

Hans Moleman, the sympathy-inducing and pathetic old man then claims that he actually was saying "boo-urns."

Mr. Burns asks his assistant "are they booing me?"

So, Mr. Burns gets up and asks the crowd "are you saying boo, or boo-urns?"

The crowd gives out a very loud "BOOOO!!!!" and begins throwing stuff at him.
