As to voting for Kerry.....my inlaws are hopeless.
My husband's sister (Little Mrs. Doctor's Stay-at-home Wife) and her husband (an ob-gyn) moved to Oklahoma, near the Kansas border, and my great father-in-law and mother-in-law followed them. They all joined the most extreme type of Southern Baptist Church, and now all I get e-mails about is Guns, God, and Gays. Specifically, how glad they are that none of their grandchildren are gay (they are all too young to discuss that), and how the founding fathers really didn't mean for a separation of church and state.

I have send them facts until I am blue in the face. Nothing works. They have been absorbed by the Borg, and cannot independently think. Should I just give up, and try to sign up Democratic voters? Convince Undecideds?

I notice that I read both types of websites, and am informed. They, however, will not visit democraticunderground.com, buzzflash.com, alternet.org, common dreams, or any other of the sites that inform. They do not even read what John Kerry posts on his website. They are just hopeless.

1. Spend your time plowing and planting in fertile ground. "There is none so
blind than he who will not see".

2. I think you answered your own question
If they are that hopeless, you would be of more service getting voters registered and talking to more receptive people. I know it is a kick in the teeth to have relatives slip through the cracks, moreso than friends or acquaintances, but you would accomplish more by focusing on getting the most value from your time.

3. This is an overt campaign by the Southern Baptist Convention
They have made a decision to try to affect the elections, and they are going after it tooth and nail. I really wish some group or reporter would investigate them.

4. They want to be middle class and respectable.
You need to introduce them to other people, who they will see as middle class and respectable, but hold a different view. Remember these people must look just like your inlaws. Do you?

6. Bush will have a hardcore base. But there are a lot of swing votes out
I'd suggest dedicating some more effort on potential swing voters.

Bush, like Kerry, has a built in number of voters who aren't going to change. It's just too bad these ones are your inlaws.

7. My family is the same,
I talk till I am blue in face and it does no good. I quit talking and just send them every article I can from every site I visit. I try to educate them. If they don't listen, then as I have told them don't complain about the shape things are in, ie:medical costs, deaths in the war,the deficate being so large, cost of housing(mom lives in section 8 housing)ect. Everytime they bring it up I just say..you know how to change it.

8. I feel for you
I have a family full of Southern bushbots myself- they are not only hopeless, but incessantly try to debate me- which is invariably unproductive. I've basically had to cut most of them off- including blocking their e-mail.

Frankly, I think I got mixed up at birth.

Not much you can do with stupid people (and that's what they are if they refuse to learn). Best to give it a rest, I think- and try to be sure to limit their influence on your kids and any other sane members of your family.
