McCain totally has this thing, people...
the yard sign election is hands-down going for McCain. The sign-waving election is pretty much over as well. Those brilliant republican strategerists have their people hitting the streets after dark to trespass and commit criminal mischief. They are out again for 2-3 hours on the weekend to wave signs at disinterested people on their way to church or the grocery store.

All Obama has left is the real election on November 4th. He can't get any of his hardworking volunteers to stop knocking on doors, making phone calls, and hitting that darn DONATE! button long enough to hop a strangers fence and do that all-important petty larceny work that could get him visibility points with the neighbors.

In fact, 'round these crucial parts of a not-so-swing state, McCain/Palin is doing so well with their supporters, they're now looking for people who are willing to volunteer for money! Here is an email I got today:

17. You wouldn't have to offend people
Just explain trickle-down in all its gruesome detail, and how it would affect them.

If you can't help yourself, just say, "Help the rich, vote McCain bitch!"

3. Where I live, they give out McC/P yard signs for free, and I've seen ONE at someone's house.
The Dem office sells Obama signs for $10 each, and there is a wait list of people numbering in the HUNDREDS. We cannot keep them in stock.

11. Well, there's their problem right THERE: they're looking for people with a "strong work ethic".
Seems they chased people like that out of the party weeks ago.

12. Huh. My mom's out of work in that area and she's a registered Republican with a great work ethic...
She happens to be voting Obama this election, but do they need to know that?

That could make for some interesting canvassing, no?

"Hi, I'm X, an employee of the McCain/Palin campaign. I'd like to know if you're planning on supporting McCain and Palin? Me? No. I'm voting for Barack Obama."

16. Some asshole has sprayed "N" in front of Obama on all the signs in my folks'
neighborhood. On one, it looks like they painted "nigger" then chickened out and sprayed over it to
cover it, but not very successfully. I was shocked, this is in a pretty upscale Atlanta neighborhood. I
guess some RW'er's kid thinks they're real funny. :puke:

McCain Hiring Paid Canvassers in Florida

By Alec MacGillis

Republicans worried about John McCain's prospects have wondered how his campaign has been spending its not-insignificant pile of money, given that McCain is being heavily outspent on the air in swing states and has invested far less in field offices and organizers than has Barack Obama. Well, here's one place at least some money is going: In Florida, McCain is now offering to pay people to do door-to-door canvassing for the campaign.

An e-mail went out over the weekend from the Republican Party in Hillsborough County, which encompasses the vote-rich Tampa area, inviting supporters to go door-to-door for the campaign for $12 per hour. "Work as many shifts per week as you want," it said. "No experience necessary, but a strong desire to make a difference and a strong work ethic are important. So is reliable transportation."

McCain's reliance on paid canvassers is another indication of the advantage Obama holds going into the final weeks of the campaign, thanks to his formidable ground organization. In Florida alone, the Obama campaign has 56 field offices, more than 100 field organizers and the free labor of 150,000 volunteers, who have been doing all of the campaign's canvassing in the state.

The Obama campaign is so confident of its Florida effort that it has moved its two top national field generals, Steve Hildebrand and Paul Tewes, to the Sunshine State, so they can be closer to the action there.
