If we win Virginia and North Carolina
It will mark the end of the GOP's southern strategy. The success polling wise we are having in Virginia and North Carolina has has alot to do with demographic shifts. The GOP will be forced to re-evaluate their positions on "values issues" that they have been able to use as a sledge hammer on us in the past. Simply put, the electoral college map where those issues are valuable to winning an election will not be at 270. That combined with a changing population ethnically and culturally overall. We win these states this year we may win the war on Gay Rights, Evolution, and finally put the Abortion issue to rest as a mainstream political issue. We will have finally started put an end to the movement Fallwell started in 1980. Too bad old Jerry isn't alive to see the beginning of his movement die.

1. If we win in Virginia and North Carolina, and we very well could,
then we may also carry Florida.

That would be 3 large and significant blue states lopped off of the GOP southern tier.

I'm encouraged in Virginia by people who threw in strong and true behind Webb when he defeated Allen in 2006, and this time Mark Warner looks like he'll cruise to victory in that open-seat race.

It would be a splendid hour to see Virginia flicker blue on that electoral map -- and in Eastern time, too.

2. Wins in NC/VA and CO/NV will mean rewrite of the electoral map.
It will mean Obama and the party will have firmly planted the flag in the no-longer-solid-repub-south.

AND the Mountain West.

It will mean the beginning of turning the GOP into a regional party of the South and UT and Idaho.

Unless they can change their message and voters off the Klan demographic.

7. Well if the Republicans are going to poach states out of there, McCain isn't the candidate.
And 2008 does not appear to be the year.

4. Another problem they have is a lot of their pre-segregation era racists are dropping like flies.
Four years from now they're even more screwed because most of the George Wallace Gang will be six feet under.

5. There are a lot of lessons from the 06 Webb/Allen race and this one, about
what is happening in the South, which Virginia is in the vanguard of.

The urban centers of the South have a large influx of Dem voters, liberal white collar types, African Americans. Even in other parts of the South, there are many white voters who no longer wish for the South to be represented by ugly racist "Macaca" or monkey effigy type sentiments.

The times, they are a' changin' indeed.
