Do We Need a Dem Pres. and R Congress?
That's what the pubbies are saying. That with Obama in the WH the country needs a R congress... to balance things. Its almost like they concede to Obama!

So what do you think? Can the country get along just fine with pubbies controlling congress?

1. Are you high?
I realize you are posting this probably sarcastically in response to the talking bobbleheads.

We need a constitutional amendment majority in Congress AND a Dem president.

And hell no, they are complete obstructionists.

Seventy-six (?) Republican filibusters.

Republicans spinning it as a "do-nothing Democratic Congress."

The media is their lapdog.

They all need to be tarred and feathered and shipped OUT OF THE BELTWAY!

Let the few Republicans who survive learn how to work for the best of the majority of the people, instead of serving the huge corporate donors and lobbyists.

Ask Bill Clinton how that worked out for him.

Repubs didn't say a damned thing when they controlled the WH and Congress. They're just afraid some of their crap will be overturned if Dems have full control for a while. NOW they want to "balance" things. B.S.

16. FUCK no
We need a solid Democratic majority in both houses of Congress. Beyond that, we need to throw out the current spineless Congressional (lack of) leadership, and replace them. No DLC'ers need apply for the job, and let this serve as notice that voting with the Repukes shall NOT be tolerated any longer.

We cannot move this country forward when those who claim to be on our side are stabbing us in the back.

No. We need a Dem congress to go along with our Dem president if we are to make any progress at all. But we Dems are not the whole country, and the press along with the pubbies are saying "it may be a good idea". So yeah, its an issue that needs some discussion, and this is a discussion board, eh?

We need 2 generations of Progressives in order to clean up the mess that the republicans and conservatives have caused in the the last 8 years alone.

That's PROGRESSIVES I said. That DOES NOT INCLUDE Blue Dogs or DLC. - we are going to have to start purging Blue Dogs and DLC Immediately after November

Get a phucking grip

23. This is an article of faith among many 'small government' folks
The ones who are really honest would even say they favor a Dem congress with a Republican White House. Wyoming is a great example - we have a heavily Republican legislature and a strong and popular Democratic governor. This reflects to common feeling in the electorate here that it's best to make it hard for government to do anything, regardless of what party favors it.

36. I'd be happy with a Democratic White House
Senate, House of Representatives, every governor's mansion and every state legislature in the country; also mayors, city counsels, boards of alderman and the governing bodies for every municipal body down to the hamlet. I part company from my fellow Wyoming folk on this topic as I believe that government can and should work to improve things for all citizens.

As long as it's the right Democrats. For instance I really don't mind Lincoln Chaffee and would prefer him to a few Dem's from the Deep South.

Did I pass?

25. In a less imperfect world, yes.
Or the other way around... Normally, I don't trust -any- side to have 100% of the power. I personally feel that a check and balance would be theoretically good.

However...

The Republicans have soooooo screwed the pooch (and have become so obscene and twisted in their ideology) that they need to go to the time out corner for 10-16 years. Then they'll be allowed to sit at the adult table and participate. Maybe.

28. Well with all of the DLC Dems even with the majority there will be some rightwing garbage
coming out of Congress.

I think that in order to have balance we need an equal split of the American Socialist Party, and the Democratic Party.

Republicans can go the way of the National Socialist Parties who ruined other countries in their day by pursuing Far Right nazi bullshit.

Actually there are a few useful responses on this thread, but the majority are more like yours.

31. That's BS
If you want Obama to make the changes he's promised, he needs a majority in Congress. I've never bought that balance crap. It sounds fair to some people, who get it mixed up with the concept of "balance of power" among the branches of government. There's nothing in the basic prinicipals of governing that says there has the be a balance in the ruling parties.

33. You have to be kidding
The Republicans are so unhinged, their ideology so failed, and their interest in the people is so minimal that they do not belong anywhere near any power.

In fact like another poster has said we need such a majority of actual progressives that we can single party a Constitutional amendment if need be.

How is it not getting through peoples skulls that the entire Republican philosophy has utterly failed? They have nothing to offer a liberal democracy...nothing.

48. Frak no.
Check out Thomas Frank's The Wrecking Crew for more information, but that is how they have been operating for a long time; if they can't control everything, they at least try to prevent our side from accomplishing anything.

There is a lot of work to be done and the GOP needs to be pushed out of the way for it to get accomplished. They will gum up the works and prevent necessary growth in government because they have Reagan's nonsense that "government is the problem" stuck in their heads. Big Government needs its groove back, and for that to happen, they need to be put out of commission for a while.
