Schmidt: McCain 'within striking distance'
The GOP look like they have it in the bag. Are they going to steal it? This ratbag Schmitt looks too smug. I'd like to wipe the smile off Schmitt's face!

John McCain’s chief strategist Steve Schmidt said Monday that the campaign is “well within striking distance” of Barack Obama.

“We are running in a very difficult political environment, that’s not a secret to anybody that’s out there,” Schmidt said during an interview on National Public Radio. “I believe in this race we are approximately six points behind. There’s a lot of the media right now that is writing Senator McCain off for the third or fourth time this year. That means we have ‘em just where we want ‘em in this race.”

“We have an ability to close that distance in the final weeks of the campaign and we’ll be working hard to do that,” Schmidt added. “We feel good about the possibilities of winning the race.”

3. Translation: "We're screwed!"
Seriously, what else could he say? If he says anything less than overly optimistic, he dampens the little enthusiasm McCain enjoys from his supporters and potentially depresses the Republican turnout on election day.

I don't fault him for what he said in this instance. He's the damn campaign manager. I HAS to stay positive!

8. Hahaha... oh that Steve...whatta comic! Seriously, what do you expect him to say?
"Um, we're getting our asses handed to us and we have no chance in hell"?

This is their job. I'm certain Mondale's campaign spokespeople claimed they were in a good position and closing the gap right before he lost 49 of 50 states.

9. Within striking distance of what, the men's room in case Gramps has to pee?
These idiotic talking point machines running the McGramps campaign need to begin planing for life without a job, because when Obama puts the smack upside their beady little skulls Nov 4, they are going to need a bottle of aspirins to get over the long headache for the Thuglies.

11. I think you're giving them a bit too much credit.
They're able to successfully use these tactics when an election is close. But with the way the election is looking right now? I don't think so.

We just have to be vigilant and turn our people out and the election should turn out okay.

Where he's wrong: McCain isn't as good at getting people to change their mind as Obama is.

You're up against Barack Obama, and he runs a lethally efficient campaign.

24. No worries. What else are they going to say...? "We're down and likely out"?
This "we have them where we want them" nonsense isn't much different that Karl Rove's spin in 2006 of "they have their math, but I have THE math" -- just before Republicans were trounced across the board.

25. What do you think he would say: "Man, we are totally
losing this race!" Of course they are going to give some bullshit about how they can pull it off. I remember when the democrats lost control of the house during the midterm elections following 2000. Terry McAuliff went on MSNBC and said (I kid you not): "This was a very good night for democrats!" because the dems won a couple of governor's races. It was laughable, but that is what these people say and do. They get paid to make fools out of themselves.

29. NPR (Now Pro Republican) radio gave Schmidt a lot of air time today.
Edited on Mon Oct-13-08 09:20 PM by Overseas
That was quite disgusting. He got time to play is Blind Ambition ad and repeat that OBama associated with an unrepentant terrorist whose group bombed the pentagon.

And the NPR reporter issued a couple of little challenges to his lies but let most of them float as is.
