Hank Williams Jr. Brings the Stupid
I wish this wasn't true:

McCain - Palin Tradition

By Hank Williams Jr.

The left wing liberal media have

Always been a real close knit family

But, most of the American People

Don't believe em anyway ya see

Stop and think it over

Before you make your decision

If they smell something

They're gonna come down strong

It's a McCain - Palin tradition

Now this old Union's got problems

That is plain to see

The Democrats bankrupted Fannie Mae N Freddie Mac

Just like 1, 2, 3

The bankers didn't want to make all those bad loans,

But Bill Clinton said you got to

Now they want a bail out, what I'm talking about

Is a Democrat liberal who doo

CHORUS

John N Sarah tell ya

Just what they think

And they're not gonna blink

And they're gonna fix this country

Cause they're just like you N ole Hank

Yes John is a maverick

And Sarah fixed Alaska's broken condition

They're gonna go just fine

We're headed for better times

It's a McCain - Palin tradition

I am very proud of America's name

Bu no society is perfect

And we have had our stains

If I'm down at the coffee shop and

Somebody wants to give our flag friction

We say please move on

Cause we're standing strong

That's an old John McCain tradition

CHORUS

John N Sarah tell ya

Just what they think

And they're not gonna blink

And they're gonna fix this country

Cause they're just like you N ole Hank

Yes John is a maverick

And Sarah fixed Alaska's broken condition

They're gonna go just fine

We're headed for better times

It's a McCain - Palin tradition

Some are bound to tell you I'm

Preaching to the choir

And that is very true

And we are going even higher

Like a mama bear in Idaho

She'll protect your family's condition

If you mess with her cubs

She's gonna take of the gloves

It's an American female tradition

CHORUS

John N Sarah tell ya

Just what they think

And they're not gonna blink

And they're gonna fix this country

Cause they're just like you N ole Hank

Yes John is a maverick

And Sarah fixed Alaska's broken condition

They're gonna go just fine

We're headed for better times

It's a McCain - Palin tradition

I had planned to do some math tonight. No longer.

1. The nutters are showing their family values again....
Country music singers
have always been a real close family
but lately some of my kin folks
have disowned a few others and me
i guess its because
i kinda changed my direction
i guess i went and broke the family tradition

they get on me wanna know Hank
why do you drink?
(Hank) why do you roll smoke?
Why must you live out the songs that you wrote?
over and over
everybody made my prediction
so if i get stoned
I'm just carryin'
on an old family tradition

I am very proud
of my daddys name
although his kinda music
and mine ain't exactly the same
stop and think it over
put yourself in my position
if i get stoned and sing all night long
it's a family tradition

Don't ask me Hank
why do you drink?
(Hank) why do you roll smoke?
Why must you live out the songs that you wrote?
If I'm down in a Honky-Tonk
Some ol' slicks tryin to give me corrections
I'll say leave me alone
I'm singin all night long
it's a family tradition

Lordy, I have loved some ladies
and I have loved Jim Beam
and they both tried to kill me
in 1973
when that doctor asked me
Son how did you get in this condition
I said hey sawbones I'm just carryin on
an old family tradition

So don't ask me Hank
why do you drink?
(Hank) why do you roll smoke?
Why must you live out the songs you wrote?
Stop and think it over
Try and put yourself in my unique position
If I get stoned and sing all night long
It's a family tradition!

...He's now officially the least talented member of the Williams family.

Hank Sr. - classic stuff. One of the roots of country and rock.

Hank III - can go from country to punk rock to metal and not sound stupid doing so

Guess it skipped a generation for the Repuke Retread?

It went a long way down from "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" (which said it was understandable for a MAN to cry for a good reason) to this backwards shit. Junior's moved the family name from classic music to bullshit. This is why so many liberals hate Country Music, too much of this RW bullshit, not enough of the REAL DEAL.

..... I seriously doubt he HAD political beliefs lol .... but he was southerner living in the first half of the 20th Century. And NO decent southerner alive then would EVER be accused of being a Republican.

Most of them were racist Dixie-crats, but that's another matter. ;)

And you're right ... one of the greatest lyricists of our time.

51. Actually I'm wrong....
.... turns out ol' Hank did have some idea of the world outside of Nashville.

Here's a song that I THINK is about Joseph Stalin (someone correct me if I've got the wrong Joe)

NO, NO JOE

Steel guitar intro

Now look her Joe quit acting smart
Stop being that old brazen sort
Don’t you go sellin’ this country short?
No, no, Joe

Just because you think you’ve found
The system that we know ain’t sound
Don’t you go throwin’ your weight around?
No, no Joe

Coz the Kaiser tried and Hitler tried it
Mussolini tried it too
Now they’re all suttin’ around a fire and did you know
They’re saving place for you

Now Joe you ought to get it clear
You can’t push folks around with fear
Coz we don’t scare easy over here
No, no Joe

Fiddle and steel guitar break

What makes you do the things you do?
You getting’ folks mad at you
Don’t bite off more than you can chew?
No, no Joe

Coz you want a scrap that you can’t win
You don’t know what you’re getting in
Don’t you go around leading with your chin?
No, no Joe

Now you got tanks some fair size tanks
But you’re acting like a clown
Don’t go Yanks a mess of Yanks
And you might get caught with your tanks down

Don’t go throwin’ out your chest
You’ll pop the buttons off you vest
You’re playing with a hornet’s nest
No, no Joe

Fiddle and steel guitar break

You know you think you’re somebody we should dread
Just because you’re seeing red
You better get that foolishness out of your head
No, no Joe

And you might be itching for a fight
Quit braggin’ about how your bear can bite
Coz you’re sitting on a keg of dynamite
No, no Joe

56. "Dear John"
This is fun, I could do this all night long...

"Dear John"

Well when I woke up this mornin',
There was a note upon my door,
Said don't make me no coffee Babe,
'cause I won't be back no more,
And that's all she wrote, Dear John,
I've sent your saddle home.

Now Jonah got along in the belly of the whale,
Daniel in the lion's den,
But I know a guy that didn't try to get along,
And he won't get a chance again,
And that's all she wrote, Dear John,
I've fetched your saddle home.

Well she didn't forward no address,
Nor she didn't say goodbye,
All she said was if you get blue,
Just hang your little head and cry,
And that's all she wrote, Dear John,
I've sent your saddle home.

Now my gal's short and stubby,
She's strong as she can be,
But if that little old gal of mine,
Ever get's a-hold of me,
That's all she wrote, Dear John,
I've sent your saddle home.

90. "I'm Sorry For You, My Friend"
You’ve known so long that you were wrong
But still you had your way
You told her lies and alibis
And hurt her more each day
But now your conscience bothers you
You’ve reached your journey’s end
You’re asking me for sympathy
I’m sorry for you, my friend.

You laughed inside each time she cried
You tried to make her blue
She tagged along through right and wrong
Because she worshipped you
You know that you’re the one to blame
There’s no use to pretend
Today’s the day you start to pay
I’m sorry for you, my friend.

Today as she walked arm in arm
At someone else’s side
It made you stop and realize
That time has turned the tide
You should have known you’d be alone
’cause cheaters never win
You tried and lost, now pay the cost
I’m sorry for you, my friend.

Hank Williams III:

"I've never been very political, 'cuz they don't want your vote if you're on probation. And it doesn't matter anyway. If it did, things would be a lot different. All I can say is that the rules, and the way things are getting approached right now on all sides, makes it look pretty grim for us. They aren't allowing people to think for themselves and that's sad for America. We're at war, having our kids die, and killing other people while (our government) over here is taking away more and more rights from US citizens. That just doesn't add up. It makes me almost sick. Everybody has to loosen up and quit being so fuckin' uptight. And this idea of building a wall (across the Mexican border) is a crock of shit. Fucking wake up, get real and deal with what's at hand, and that means changing the way America's been going."

... and I like Hank III's music a hell of a lot better, too.

72. what about the terrorist line?
i just saw this story on abc news and they commented on a certain verse that i didn't see in the original post.
did a search; http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/10/hank-williams-j.html

But Williams sang the song twice on Monday, once at a joint McCain-Palin rally in Virginia Beach and the second time at the Richmond Raceway.

And he didn’t always stick to the song sheet.

At the first appearance in Virginia Beach, Williams added a line to the song about Barack Obama.

"John and Sarah tell you just what they think.
And they're not gonna blink.
And they don't have terrorist friends
to whom their careers are linked,"

Williams sang.

That line is not included in the lyrics released by the campaign.

Nor is another line that Williams included in Richmond about Governor Palin. It sounds on the tape like he sings: "Why do you hunt? God why do you fish? How can you be so smart and be such a good lookin’ dish?"

Palin is standing just a few feet away.

If the south woulda won we woulda had it made.. Blah. I grew up hearing his music all the time. All my rowdy friends, etc. My next door neighbors country band is named Young Country after one of his stupid songs. Hank Jr. comes to our county to hunt with another redneck. They go smoke dope etc, together. You can pretty much tell that if Hank Jr. promotes something, you shouldn't like it. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed.

HW3 is an idiot. I saw him open for Horton Heat.

He wasn't supposed to open, in fact, one of my favorite bands- Amazing Crowns were the real opener. But AC got cut short and HW3 went on stage...

He played a one of granddad's songs, and the very rockabilly crowd got into it, dancing a little. Then he played one of his own songs. Some meth addled death metal crap. The crowd stopped dancing and stared in stunned and silent amazement.

Then he reverted to a country song to get the crowd back. Then more meth metal.

WTF. That guy is such an ass.

103. I love Hank III sooooo much!
Edited on Tue Oct-14-08 10:40 AM by Juniperx
You just don't get him. I loved his grandpappy's music too... his dad is a waste of skin, imho. But Hank III is my hero. I grew up listening to classic country because my granny loved it so. I have a healthy appreciation for it, as well as the rockabilly stuff my mom listened to... she grew up with The Everly Brothers, literally (Granny corresponded with their mother for years and years after they moved). But I'm a metal head. Total freaking metal head. I so appreciate Hank III's perspective on music, because it is my own. For the record, I still go to the rockabilly shows, including Hootenanny in the OC, and you are the very first rockabilly fan I've ever heard diss Hank III.

But then, I have a very broad appreciation for music. Here I am with one of my all time metal heroes.

I should scan some of my old pix taken with people like Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, and Doug Kershaw... the dichotomy of my music is sweeeeeet!

Edited to say, I was talking about him here just yesterday...

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x7438418#7438520

He can twang it up as good as anyone...
But usually, halfway through his set he says something like:

"Now, y'all have been very kind to come out tonight, and I hope you've enjoyed the show. Right about now things are gonna get sorta loud... and rockin', so if any of y'all don't take to that sort of thing, you might want to call it a night right now."

Then he goes into the most wonderful heavy metal tirade you ever wanted to hear! His metal is finer than a frog hair split eight ways. And his country does his granpappy proud!

I have always been a HUGE Hank Williams fan... and June and Johnny have been my heroes all my life... and I'll always have a special place in my heart for Faron Young. I was fortunate to grow up with a granny who loved her some old time country and I grew a healthy appreciation for the genre myself. However... I am a metal head. No question. So when people like Hank III or Robert Plant and Alison Krause blur that line betwixt the two, I'm happier than a pig in mud!

I wasn't "Born With a Tail" but sometimes, only The Supersuckers will do!

Not the counter-culture, no. This is an, ahem, shining example of what David Brooks was talking about when he lamented the total rejection of ideas on the right. It's emotions-on, brain-off. They are practically BEGGING us to call this dumb, because that lets the guys who are inclined to like it get their backs up about being looked down on.

Well, boys, if you're tired of being looked down on, you should stand up already and stop wallowing in the dirt.
