OK...Stand up! Who is working for Obama?
Mine is a small job: Doing data entry of the results from the folks doing the phone banking.

What are the rest of you doing?

3. Dear California Peggy! That was what I did last week; I'm signed up
for phone banking, door knocking, and am taking election day off to drive people to the polls! I brought home four yard signs today (two each for Obama/Biden, and Al Franken) and am picking up Tim Walz and some local ones tomorrow. My yard will be in bloom!!!
And I bought an Obama/Biden tee, which I can't, unfortunately, wear to work, but will wear everywhere else!!!

21. It's neck and neck. I'm just encouraged that the Hillary voters have come home.
I've been canvassing with a former Hillary supporter and she's been absolutely fabulous as have all of the former Hillary supporters I have met. I was there during the primaries and I was encouraged even then.

We need a huge turnout from NW Indiana, but I think a win is possible.

18. I've canvassed a couple of times.
Edited on Mon Oct-13-08 11:55 PM by msallied
It's been difficult since my husband's work schedule has come to encompass 18 hours a day, 6 days a week, but it was a fantastic experience. I also helped in a petition drive that got the very important Death with Dignity initiative on our state ballot. I also helped in a voter registration drive at the giant annual fair we have out here every September.

I've also done a lot of blogging, though I know that's not exactly working for Obama, but I have a pretty good audience and I've brought in a lot of otherwise uninterested people into this process and have gotten them enthusiastic about Obama. I do try and keep a lot of people in the loop with the latest events via that as well as through Twitter and my pretty extensive e-mail list. Because of that, I've developed a pretty great network of people who bring to me the "rumor of the day" that I can easily dispel with some ready answers.

One example, a friend of mine from Colorado has a wife who works for a jail. She came home concerned about Obama's supposed "gun tax," which was being mentioned by several of the deputies she works with. I was able to quell her worries with the Fact Check article, which she then sent to her co-workers. I think simple gestures like this really do a lot to keep the electorate informed and help to counter the media's spin and bias.

You've been really busy!

And I know that the web has absolutely revolutionized campaigning...I think what you're doing with your blog is so very important...

Just think...you passed the facts on to those deputies via your friend; then they know the truth, and hopefully are more likely to pass it on to their friends...

Ripples in the pond...

Thank you for your efforts!

I love being a part of this process in any way I can. And I love that this campaign has opened the doors for us regular folks to feel like they have a hand in sweeping change! It's quelled so much of my cynicism in the political process, seeing this take hold from the ground up! Ripples in the pond, indeed. All of us together will be a giant tsunami on those Republicans! LOL

22. Canvassing here in Indiana, too! I am county coordinator for the Obama campaign.
Edited on Tue Oct-14-08 12:01 AM by Indiana_Dem
I have been canvassing since the primaries....I'll be phone banking later after the canvassing is done. I hate phone banking but I'll do it for this cause! I've helped organize a cookout, a Latino registration drive, a convention watch party, and I set the dates and times of canvassing and contact the volunteers. I've been registering people up until Oct. 6th, since then I've been helping old & disabled people apply for a absentee-by-mail ballots. I've given people signs for their yards as I earn them for volunteering. I've given away buttons and bumper stickers. I keep everyone up on the issues and I've been telling people to go and early vote--when & where. Half my co-workers are going to vote early tomorrow. They didn't know they could vote early!!!

They call me the "Obama girl"!

on edit: I've donated quite a bit of money, too! ;)

on edit again: we made 1600 calls Sunday evening. A week or so ago we made 3600 in one day! This is in a small county of about 50k.

41. Working in our local Dem office for
Charlie Brown for Congress, Jennifer Montgomery for Supervisor, No on 8, answering phones and selling Obama stuff and trying to peel off Obama volunteers to help out with our local candidates. I am running ragged. Damn you McFailin for flooding our red-district office with volunteers and buyers of Obama stuff. The common theme from just about every new face coming into the office is "I can't take it anymore and I need to do something." Second most common: yardsigns being stolen and they are getting replacements. Third: "Here's $10 for a $2 sticker/button, keep the change and put it where you think you need it most. I LOVE Placer County!!!!!!!

47. Yes, Placer County is the "East Texas" of
California. It is getting ugly here, too, the hate is coming out in the open, but the volunteers and support from people is so inspiring that if nothing else, keeps us all going and going at full throttle. We are not used to this and everyone is working so hard! The pressure is so on to turn this district blue. We have had a few drop out already because of the pressure. I hope to keep going up to Election Day where I am a precinct inspector. I hope to not collapse until I get home that night.

Pennsylvania canvassing 3 times so far (and somethings working, cause PA looks to be going Blue!).

59. Registering Voters in California
It is so rewarding.

Saturday I encouraged a young man to complete the form while he was walking with a friend in the Mall.

After he finished he came up to me and gave me a big hug and said, " I'm 25 yrs. old and this will be the first time that I have voted."

He was so excited that he just started hugging each one of us around the table.

I see it as an opportunity to inspire people to be "life long voters" and to be passionate about the importance of VOTING.

64. Me is. And I hate making phone calls but I do it. I've only gone to the
center 3 times so far but I'm going to try and go more this week. They have even started a center, (well a house)in my neighborhood because so many people were complaining about the drive. I find that amazing. I also am amazed at how many people are there when I go. It's like a busy office with 5 big rooms.

65. I'm picking on anybody I can
Working the phones, handling emails, printing out my own material and leaving them in interesting places about town (nothing illegal or vandalizing), hosting the debates, and my favorite is baking, then inviting people over for dessert and coffee (usually when Olbermann, then Rachel is on in the background.)

I'm just having fun ...

:)

70. canvassing in Gary Indiana. I almost feel guilty it's soooo blue there I almost never get
any negative responses. It's the bluest of the blue parts of Indiana so it's mostly reminding people about early voting and absentee voting. It's really fun.

71. I've been doing data entry too
yesterday they were out so I broke down and made phone calls for an hour, which I hate. But I did it. I may go canvassing this weekend too. I also passed out flyers and sold 12 tickets to a local fundraiser for him that made $9000.

It's the first time I've ever really done anything for a presidential candidate (other than vote and donate).

73. Hi Peg. My PAC, Swing the Vote is working all over NH. We are
doing phone banking, standouts/visibility and planting yard signs we had made which say "McSame - voted 90% with - Bush". For the standouts, we also had huge banners made of the Famous Bush/McCain embrace. They get alot of attention.

There is more anger this year than there was in 2006. More people giving us the finger and a lot more sign stealing.

Hope all is well with you! :-)

78. Obama early vote MARCH
I have been working for Suzanne Kosmos for congress but have signed up to do the day before and election day with his local campaign. I have been a lurker but signed up today so that all Florida voters will know that on Oct 27 there will be an early vote March across the state. In my town we will be marching from the campaign for change office to the supervisor of elections office. Media will be there and the National campaign will be sending someone to march with us. Check your local campaign for times.

84. Helped to turn San Bernardino County BLUE!!
For the first time in seven years, SBC is BLUE. I did a small part by registering voters on the weekends with the local Democratic club.

I have a yard sign out here in the boonies on our 30 acres of desert at the end of a dirt road...but hey, my FedEx, UPS, propane delivery, Edison meter reader and various repair people (and my horses) have seen it.

I've donated several times to Obama/Biden and this coming weekend I'm Driving for Change to Las Vegas to help turn Nevada BLUE for Obama. I'm so excited! And today I voted absentee here in California.
